Childhood and youth G Herbo

The performer was born on October 8, 1995 in the American city of Chicago (Illinois). His real name is Herbert Randall Wright III. There is no mention of the artist's parents. However, it is known that Uncle G Herbo was also a musician.

The rapper's grandfather lived in Chicago and was a member of the blues band The Radiants. Herbert belongs to the NLMB fraternity, which, according to the members, is not a gangster gang. The artist studied at Hyde Park Academy High School. But at the age of 16 he was expelled due to behavior problems. 

From an early age, the guy listened to his uncle's music, which prompted him to create his own tracks. G Herbo was lucky with the environment, rapper and friend Lil Bibby lived next door in Chicago. Together they worked on songs. The boys wrote their first compositions at the age of 15. Wright was inspired by popular artists: Gucci Mane, Meek Mill, Jeezy, Lil Wayne and Yo Gotti.

The beginning of the creative path of G Herbo

The musical career of the performer begins in 2012. Together with Lil Bibby, he released the track Kill Shit, which became their "breakthrough" on the big stage. Aspiring artists have published a video clip on YouTube.

In the first weeks, he gained more than 10 million views. Freshmen's composition was published on Twitter by Drake. Thanks to this, they were able to gain new subscribers and recognition on the Internet.

The debut mixtape Welcome to Fazoland was released in February 2014. The performer named the work after his friend Fazon Robinson, who died from gunfire in Chicago. She was well received by the rapper's audience. In April, together with Nicki Minaj the rapper released the song Chiraq. Shortly thereafter, he participated in the recording of the track Common by the musical group The Neighborhood.

Already in December 2014, the second solo mixtape Polo G Pistol P Project was released. The following year, he made a guest appearance on the track Chief Keef Faneto (Remix) along with King Louie and Lil Bibby.

In June 2015, after being eliminated from the cover of XXL Freshman 2015, he released the single XXL. However, in 2016 he was still included in the Freshman Class. In September 2015, the rapper released his third mixtape, Ballin Like I'm Kobe. It attracted considerable attention from fans of the drill subgenre.

The artist released the track Lord Knows (2015) with rapper Joey Bada$$. In 2016, before the release of the mixtape, four singles were released: Pull Up, Drop, Yeah I Know and Ain't Nothing to Me. A little later, the artist released the fourth collection of songs Strictly 4 My Fans.

What albums did G Herbo release?

If until 2016 the artist released only singles and mixtapes, then in September 2017 the debut solo album Humble Beast was released. He took 21st position in the US Billboard 200. Moreover, in a few weeks, about 14 thousand copies were sold. Patrick Lyons of Hot New Hip Hop had this to say about the work:

“G Herbo has shown promise throughout his career. The album Humble Beast became a kind of climax. Herbo speaks directly to us, he sounds as confident and classic as his childhood idols Jay-Z and NAS." 

The second studio album, Still Swervin, was released in 2018. It included collaborations with Gunna, Juice Wrld and Pretty Savage. Production was handled by Southside, Wheezy, DY. The work consists of 15 tracks. Shortly after its release, it peaked at number 41 on the US Billboard 200. And at number 4 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard).

G Herbo's most successful album was PTSD, released in February 2020. Herbo's writing was inspired by the therapy he attended after another arrest in 2018. GHerbo said:

"When my lawyer said that I needed to go to a therapist, in fact, I just accepted it."

The artist also wanted to raise awareness of mental health issues, especially those faced by people who grew up in high crime areas. 

The album PTSD peaked at number 7 on the US Billboard 200, marking G Herbo's debut on the US top 10 charts. The album also peaked at number 4 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Moreover, he took the 3rd position in the ranking of American rap albums. The song PTSD, featuring Lil Uzi Vert and Juice Wrld, peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100.

G Herbo's problems with the law

Like most Chicago rappers, the artist often argued, which led to arrests. The first arrest, information about which appeared in the media, occurred in February 2018. Together with his friends, G Herbo rode in a rented limousine. Their driver noticed how the performer puts a pistol in the back pocket of the seat.

It was a Fabrique National, loaded with bullets designed to pierce body armor. None of the three had identification cards for the owner of the firearm. They were charged with illegal use of weapons under aggravating circumstances.

In April 2019, G Herbo was arrested in Atlanta for beating up Ariana Fletcher. The girl spoke about the incident in Instagram stories: “He kicked the door to get into my house because I didn’t let him in. After that, he beat me in front of his son. Herbert took the boy outside to his friends, they left. He also hid all the knives in the house, broke the phone, locked me inside, and then beat me again.”

Fletcher recorded traces of violence on the body - scratches, cuts and bruises. Wright was in custody for a week, after which he was released on $2 bail. In his Instagram, he spent the broadcast, where he discussed what happened. The artist said that Ariana stole jewelry from his mother's house. He also said the following:

“I have been silent all this time. I didn't ask you for insurance and didn't want to put you in jail. Nothing. You told me to come to Atlanta to return the jewels."

Charges

In December 2020, G Herbo, along with associates from Chicago, received 14 federal charges. These were wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to law enforcement in Massachusetts, the perpetrator, along with his accomplices, paid for luxurious services using stolen documents.

They rented private jets, booked villas in Jamaica, bought designer puppies. Since 2016, the amount of stolen funds has amounted to millions of dollars. The artist was going to prove his innocence in court.

Talking about his personal life, the singer has been dating Ariana Fletcher since 2014. On November 19, 2017, Ariana opened up about being pregnant by the artist. A baby named Joson was born in 2018. However, by that time the couple broke up, and the performer began dating Taina Williams, a popular social media personality.

Charity G Herbo

In 2018, the artist donated funds to renovate the former Anthony Overton Elementary School in Chicago. The main goal of the rapper was to place the necessary equipment so that young people could become musicians. He also wanted to make free sections and sports. In this way, teenagers will be constantly busy, and this will help reduce the number of street gang members.

In July 2020, G Herbo launched a mental health initiative. He decided to help black people "receive therapeutic courses that inform and improve mental health in the pursuit of a better quality of life." A multi-level program created for low-income black citizens. She offers them visits to therapy sessions, calls to the hotline, etc.

The project involves a 12-week course in which adults and 150 children can take part. In one of the interviews, the performer said:

"At their age, you never realize how important it is to have someone to talk to - someone to help you better yourself."
