Like many boys born under the Scorpio zodiac sign, Andrew Donalds, who was born on November 16, 1974 in Kingston, in the family of Gladstone and Gloria Donalds, was an extraordinary person from an early age.
Childhood Andru Donalds
The father (a professor at Princeton University) paid considerable attention to the development and education of his son. The formation of the boy's musical tastes also took place not without his participation.
With his help, Andrew was able to get acquainted with various styles and trends: from classical to modern pop music.
So, at the age of 3, he heard the music of The Beatles, which firmly settled in the heart of the future musician and became a guiding star for him.
And although his father preferred classical music, and 7-year-old Andrew received his first vocal lessons in the boys' choir, the choice of musical tastes remained with his son.
Youth and the beginning of the musical career of the artist
Creative search drove him from city to city, from country to country - New York, the Netherlands, England, France ...
The desire to achieve perfection in the performing and composing arts required a lot of effort, and attempts to realize the results of their work even more.
Eric Foster White, a composer and well-known producer who worked on the projects of such celebrities as Frank Sinatra, Julio Iglesias, Whitney Houston and Britney Spears, drew attention to the eccentricity and versatility of the young musician.
The debut album
The signing of the contract and the beginning of cooperation quickly gave the first results. The popularity of the debut album Andru Donalds, released in 1994, which Andrew dedicated to his sister, who passed away, surprised and delighted.
Among the 11 songs performed in pop and rock and roll styles was the famous Mishale, which became a hit and conquered the world charts.
Andrew was not going to rest on his laurels. He set himself a large-scale task - the creation of not disparate compositions, but the formation of a conceptual "musical universe".
The genre diversity of which would combine the general idea and atmosphere. The result of these creative searches was the album Damned If I Don't, released in 1997.
ENIGMA
The next round of Andrew Donalds' successful career was his acquaintance in 1998 with Michel Cretu, producer of ENIGMA. Collaboration with Cretu enriched him with invaluable experience.
In addition, the producer invited Donalds to record his solo album. Snowin' Under My Skin was released in 1999 and took the musician to a new level of popularity.
Such hits from this album as All Out of Love (international platinum status) and Simple Obsession (gold status) won their place in the tops of radio stations and the hearts of the artist's fans.
A three-week city tour in Austria, Germany and Switzerland was also very successful.
Continuing to work in the ENIGMA project, Andrew was recognized as his "golden voice".
With his participation, the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th albums of the band were recorded, containing such favorite hits as Seven Lives, Modern Crusaders, Je T'aime Till My Dying Day, Boum-Boum, In The Shadow, In The Light, etc.
Solo career as an artist
2001 marked the release of Andrew Donalds' fourth album, Let's Talk About It, produced by Michel Cretu and Jens Gad. It became a new stage in the musician's work, but it was perceived ambiguously by critics.
Feeling tired and empty, the musician thought about a sabbatical. The temptations of stellar life did not pass him by and, unfortunately, led to a crisis.
The return "to the true path" was not easy - the break lasted 4 years. Only in 2005, Andrew returned to the listener with the soundtrack I Feel, sounding in T. Schweiger's film "Barefoot on the Pavement".
In the same 2005, his duet appeared with Evgenia Vlasova, a singer from Ukraine. Together they recorded such compositions as: Limbo and Wind Of Hope. We continued our cooperation with the ENIGMA project, recording solo singles, searching for something new and unknown.
In 2014, his project with Brazilian musicians appeared, later called Karma Free. In the songs of which you can hear the influence of such famous reggae artists as Bob Marley, rock bands Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
And in 2015 there were joint projects with M. Fadeev, thanks to which the song I Believe appeared, which became the soundtrack to the cartoon Savva. Warrior heart.
The personal life of an artist
Currently, Donalds is developing a solo career and performs with Angel X, a duet with which is the basis of Classic Enigma.
In 2018, during a tour of Russia, the singer visited St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and other cities, performed with significant success at the Central Russian Upland 2018 festival.
He liked these regions, because, having visited Brazil in June with concerts dedicated to Valentine's Day, the musician continued his Russian tour.
The personal life of the 45-year-old Jamaican star is shrouded in mystery. It is only known that officially Andrew is not married, but is raising a son.
The name of the boy was given in honor of Maradona's football star - Diego Alexander. The musician does not say anything about his German mother, but he loves the boy very much.
Their joint photos on Instagram literally glow with happiness. Diego plays football with his dad, goes to matches. Yes, and he is not deprived of his abilities - he is engaged in the piano and singing.
