  • Simon Neal (guitar, lead vocals);
  • James Johnston (bass, vocals)
  • Ben Johnston (drums, vocals)

The band's music is characterized by a bold mix of guitar riffs, basses, drums and original vocals from each member. The chord progression is unconventional. So, during the sounding of a musical composition, several genres can change.

“To become what you want, a certain amount of time must pass. It seems to me that at first all musicians strive for only one thing - to play just like their favorite band, but gradually you begin to understand that you yourself can become that favorite band. For example, at the beginning of our creative career, we sounded like any other band that trudged on Nirvana tracks. My team and I just discovered distortion pedals…” says Simon Neal.

The search for his niche ended with high-quality and original alternative rock, which sounds heavier than the beloved "classics". But for a group that has been going to the top of the musical Olympus for so long, nothing has ended yet. Musicians are still experimenting with sound and are in search of themselves.

The history of the creation of the Biffy Clyro team

In the mid-1990s, teenager Simon Neal decided to create his own musical group. From the age of 5, the boy was fond of music. He was even enrolled in a music school in the violin class.

When Simon Neil first heard the tracks of the cult band Nirvana, he wanted to learn how to play the guitar. The musician found like-minded people in the face of 14-year-old drummer Ben Johnston and bassist Barry McGee, who was replaced by Ben's brother, James.

Initially, the guys performed under the name Screwfish. The first concert of the new group took place in the Youth Center. In 1997 the team changed its name to its current name and moved to Kilmarnock. There, the twins went to college to study sound engineering, and Neil went to Queen Margaret College. Simon could not decide on a specialty.

Biffy Clyro already had early fans and a good reputation. Despite this, the musicians did not receive an offer from the labels, which could not but upset the team.

Biffy Clyro did not swim alone for long. Soon Di Bol became the producer of the team. In 1999, he arranged for the band to record Iname at the modest Babi Yaga recording studio.

Presentation of the first mini-album

In the early 2000s, the band's discography was replenished with the first mini-album. We are talking about a collection with a very strange name thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow. Soon the tracks of the mentioned record were heard on the local air of the BBC radio, and the musicians took part in T in the Park for the first time.

At this major festival, the guys were noticed by Beggars Banquet Records. Soon the group signed a lucrative contract with the label. On this label, the musicians managed to re-release several old compositions. The new tracks were warmly welcomed by music lovers and music critics.

At the same time, the musicians released their first full-fledged studio album Blackened Sky. Despite the fact that music critics flattered the work, fans greeted the album rather coolly. The album reached the top 100 of the UK Albums Chart.

The following year, the musicians recorded their second studio album, The Vertigo of Bliss. The album tracks sounded even more original. The constant change of rhythm and the flow of distorted sounds contributed to the original sound.

Infinity Land album release

The next album Infinity Land (2004) turned out to be similar in sound to the previous work. Both collections were warmly received by fans. However, Simon Neil considered the band to be an insufficient testing ground for experiments and in the same year created the Marmaduke Duke project with an even wider range of musical genres.

Soon the band signed a contract with 14th Floor Records, a division of Warner Bros. records. A year later, a new album, Puzzle, was recorded in Canada. Tracks from the new studio album topped the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. And the record took 2nd position on the album chart and received the "gold" status.

The musicians finally consolidated their popularity with the release of the so-called "golden album" Lonely Revolutions. The band members were at the very top of the musical Olympus.

In 2013, the discography of the Scottish band was replenished with the next studio album Opposites. The new work is a double album. As with any good double LP, there are some pretty weird tracks on the back. The disc opened with Stinging' Belle, in which a catchy bagpipe solo made this song one of my favorites. In general, the compositions of the collection last 78 minutes.

In support of the studio album, the musicians went on tour. Nobody expected that in 2014 the guys will present another album. Therefore, the release of the Similarities collection turned out to be a huge surprise for music lovers. The collection includes 16 tracks of high quality.

Two years later, the band's discography was replenished with the album Ellipsis. The seventh studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Biffy Clyro is produced by Rich Costey. The collection became available for download on July 8, 2016. The album Ellipsis took the 1st position in the British charts.

During this period of time, the guys toured a lot. The team did not forget about the video clips. Biffy Clyro videos are as meaningful and full as the lyrics of musical compositions.

The Biffy Clyro team today

2019 began for fans of the work of the Scottish band with good news. Firstly, the guys have officially announced that they will release a new album in 2020. And secondly, in 2019 the musicians released the single Balance, Not Symmetry.

The composition became the soundtrack for the film, the creators of which described the difficult relationship between Romeo and Juliet. The film was directed by Jamie Adamas.
