The beginning of the history of the Boys Like Girls group

The Boys Like Girls group is a pop-rock band that, after some time of musical activity, was reorganized to release tracks in the country format. Formed in 2005, the main members of the group were:

  • Martin Johnson (vocalist and guitarist);
  • Brian Donahue (bassist);
  • John Keefe (drummer);
  • Paul DiGiovanni (guitarist)

At the same time, John Keefe and Paul DiGiovanni were cousins. The beginning of the group's activities took place on the Internet. The musicians worked on recordings of demo versions of future tracks and subsequently posted the work on the Internet. Therefore, by the end of 2005, their brand has gained a significant number of "fans".

Boys Like Girls continued to build on their reputation by posting demos of their work to an online community. Thanks to such activities, the team was noticed not only by American listeners, but also by major players in the music production market.

On the radar of major labels…

Among the first "business sharks" to notice the success of the budding pop-rock band Boys Like Girls was the famous booking agent Matt Galle in creative circles. He has worked with the bands My Chemical Romance and Take Back Sunday. Also, producer Matt Squire (he worked with Panic at the Disco and Northstar) became interested in the work of the group.

After a short time spent watching the band, booking agent Matt Galle and producer Matt Squire offered the band partnership contracts. Thus, the group got into show business, having the opportunity to perform on huge stages.

By the middle of 2006, the band was touring America as part of the national tours Hit the Light and A Thorn for Every Hurt, under the sponsorship contract of the Pure Volume label.

The period of success and popularity of the Boys Like Girls group

After the acclaimed national all-American tours Hit the Light and A Thorn for Every Hurt, Boys Like Girls set about writing their first studio album. Matt Galle and Matt Squire helped find the right studio and label. As a creative workshop, the musicians chose a venue run by Red Ink.

After a long and difficult, but very productive work, the band released their self-titled debut album. The album, which was released in 2006, was very popular. As a result, he received the "gold" status. The audience, warmed up in advance by tours, concerts and demo tracks, accepted the work very warmly. The circulation of the record for one year of sales exceeded the figure of 100 thousand copies.

A track like Thunder kept the band on the Billboard Hot-100 until 2008. During the "promotion" of the record, the musicians performed concerts, working on their image, status and place on the all-American stage. After the release of the DVD Read Between The Lines, the band returned to the recording studio to begin preparations for their second album.

Love Dunk album and tour

The second album Love Dunk was released in 2009. In the collection of tracks, in addition to solo recordings of musicians, there was a duet with Taylor Swift. As a bonus given to listeners who bought the album, there was a full-length recording of several live performances of the band.

The group then gained international fame. The team toured the cities of America and Europe, giving concerts on many stages known around the world. Unfortunately, two years after the release of the second album, Brian Donahue left the band. All further performances of the label were without the participation of a famous bass player.

In 2012, the band released the EP Crazy World. Then came the LP Crazy World, which included 11 studio tracks. Morgan Dorr was invited to replace Brian Donahue. This is another popular artist who began to collaborate with the now popular rock band.

Change the style of a group

With the arrival of Morgan Dorr, Boys Like Girls finally reformatted their approach to creativity, starting to release tracks in the country style. Both records - EP and LP Crazy World became an excellent example of the change in the mood of the band.
