It was the originality that allowed the young band Cannibal Corpse to get a contract with the Metal Blade Records label for seven studio albums. This happened back in 1989. Then the team had only a single demo. Collaboration with the label brought the musicians to the studio. The result was Eaten's debut album Back to Life.

The first thing that attracts attention is the non-standard design of the album, on which the artist Vincent Locke worked. He was invited by the band's vocalist Chris Barnes, with whom he was on friendly terms. One cover was enough for the record to be banned from sales in several countries around the world. In particular, the album was not available in Germany until 2006.

Due to the fact that young musicians were deprived of studio experience, they worked day and night on recording the record. According to the musicians, they almost brought producer Scott Burns to a nervous breakdown. Despite the difficulties, the group quickly became famous.

Increasing popularity of Cannibal Corpse

The texts of the group Cannibal Corps were devoted to violence. Inspired by various horror films, the songs featured creepy scenes dedicated to maniacs, cannibals and all sorts of self-mutilation.

This direction was continued by musicians in two subsequent albums Butchered at Birth and Tomb of the Mutilated. The latter became one of the most brutal and gloomy in the history of music. It was this album that had the greatest influence on the development of brutal death metal and deathgrind.

However, the group was interested not only in a nightmarish way, but also in technical music. In the structure of the compositions, with their straightforwardness and malice, there were complex riffs and solos. This testified to the maturity of the musicians. In 1993, the band embarked on their first European tour, gaining even more popularity.

George Fisher era

The group achieved real commercial success in 1994. The Bleeding was the pinnacle of Cannibal Corpse's early work, becoming a major career best-seller. According to the founder of the group, Alex Webster, the musicians reached their creative peak in this album.

Despite the commercial success of The Bleeding, the band was undergoing major changes. The key moment was the departure of permanent vocalist Chris Barnes, who was in the group almost from the moment of creation. The reason for leaving was called creative differences that alienated Chris from the team. The final point in their relationship was Chris Barnes' passion for his own group Six Feet Under. She became one of the most important in the world in the future.

Saying goodbye to Chris, Alex Webster began to search for a replacement. The newcomer in the face of George Fisher was quickly found. He was invited by another member, Rob Barrett, who was on friendly terms with Fisher.

The new vocalist quickly joined the band, possessing not only excellent growling, but also a brutal appearance. The group released two successful records Vile and Gallery of Suicide at once. Another important feature of the Fischer era was a pronounced lyrical component, which had previously been out of the question.

Creativity Cannibal Corpse in the new millennium

Cannibal Corpse is a rare example of a band that has managed to maintain a unique style even after 10 years. Despite the changes that took place around, the musicians continued to develop along their line, without losing their former popularity.

At the beginning of the XXI century. the DVD Live Cannibalism was released, which became a success with the "fans". The band then released another commercially successful album, The Wretched Spawn (2003). It proved to be more lyrical and slower than previous releases.

Sustained in an atmosphere of gloomy sadness, the album allowed the group to gain a "platinum" disc. Cannibal Corps remains the only death metal band ever to win the prestigious music award.

The album Evisceration Plague was released in 2009. According to the musicians of the group, in this disc they managed to achieve unprecedented accuracy and coherence.

The album includes both classic furious "thrillers" and very technical works. The album was warmly received by critics and "fans". The band's last album, Red Before Black, was released in 2017.
