The family prophesied for him a successful fourth-generation medical career, but in the end, music became everything to him. How did an ordinary gastroenterologist from Ukraine become everyone's favorite and popular chansonnier?
Childhood and youth
Georgy Eduardovich Krichevsky (real name of the well-known Garik Krichevsky) was born on March 31, 1963 in Lviv, in the family of a dentist Eduard Nikolaevich Krichevsky and a pediatrician Yulia Viktorovna Krichevsky.
The mother of the future singer named her newborn son in honor of his grandfather Gabriel, but the registry office offered a simpler name, George. In the circle of family and friends, the boy was called Garik.
At the age of two, the boy loved to sing and dance, easily reproduced melodies by ear, and was interested in various performers.
Already at the age of 5, he began studying piano at a music school, but he lost interest in the instrument after a few months. Garik knew musical notation and musical theory well, which helped him quickly learn to play the guitar and compose his first compositions.
In 1977, the young man, together with his friends, organized his own VIA, in which he took the place of a bass player and vocalist. The group successfully performed at various small concerts, in houses of culture, in clubs, they wrote songs together.
At the same time, Garik was professionally involved in sports for some time. Constant competitions, fees put before the young man a choice - music or sports. In the end, he chose the first, which he does not regret.
He graduated from secondary school No. 45 in Lviv at the age of 17. After graduation, he tried to enter the Lviv State Medical Institute, but failed.
After an unsuccessful attempt, he decided to get a job as a nurse in a psychiatric clinic, and then as an emergency doctor.
After two years of practice, the competition for a medical university passed without any problems. Along the way, with his studies, he continued to play in his own group and perform with an ensemble at the House of Culture.
Garik himself did not dream of becoming a popular singer or show business figure. He put more effort and effort into his studies in order to become a professional doctor in the fourth generation.
After graduating from university, he worked as an infectious disease specialist in a polyclinic.
After some time, he went to the diagnostic center to the position of a radiologist. Music was still in the life of a young man, he also continued to play in a group, perform in nightclubs in Lviv.
Musical career of Garik Krichevsky
At the height of perestroika, most Lviv hospitals were in crisis - there was not enough money to buy drugs and pay salaries to their employees. The medical institution in which Garik worked was also going through its worst times.
Therefore, it was decided to earn money through performances and recording songs. Also in the early 90s, Garik planned to move to Germany for permanent residence with his friends, but after a few months he returned to his homeland.
An attempt to record the first album was unsuccessful. A friend who recommended the studio of his acquaintances for inexpensive rental of equipment, as a result, did not release the singer's album, distributing all the developments among ordinary musical inhabitants.
At the same time, the compositions of an unknown artist were popular, but the author himself did not receive a penny for them.
In the same period, Garik and his best friend opened their own business - a video salon. Having accumulated a sufficient amount of money to record an album, in 1992 Garik Krichevsky's first album, Kyivan, went on sale.
The album "Privokzalnaya", published in 1994, was sold out in the largest circulation within one year.
Then various proposals were received from producers, concert directors, but Krichevsky categorically refused to cooperate. For this reason, many of his hits were banned from radio rotation, and television appearances were simply disrupted.
Two more years later, the chansonnier released the album "Output", which gave him even more popularity and recognition.
A busy tour schedule with tours in Israel, Russia, America, Ukraine, album sales, numerous performances, daily radio broadcasts, filming - all this led to national fame and love.
Many hits and albums of Garik Krichevsky are still being sold. He is a welcome guest at many events, concerts. In 2004, the performer was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine.
Personal life
Garik Krichevsky has been married to his former colleague, nurse Angela, for over 20 years. Young people met in the hospital, talked for a long time without a hint of a romantic relationship.
Once the singer with his friends in the music workshop went by car to the club. A friend saw a beautiful girl on the way, offered to give her a lift, to which she agreed. What was the singer's surprise when he recognized his colleague in a fellow traveler.
After this meeting, they both realized that this was fate. After a year of relationship, the couple decided to tie the knot. Despite the financial difficulties, the constant stay in the studios, the wife did not stop believing in her husband.
She constantly helped him organize concerts, conducted various negotiations, and accompanied him on tours. At the moment, Angela is the director of the artist and his musical group. The couple has two children: daughter Victoria and son Daniel.
Musician today
To date, Garik Krichevsky continues to delight his audience with new hits and albums. He is a regular participant in significant events in the world of chanson, for example, the Chanson of the Year music award.
Records duets with popular performers, acts in episodic roles in films, brings up children.
He is also a businessman - he opened a recording studio and an agency for organizing concert events. In 2012, he was the author and host of the Cool 90s with Garik Krichevsky program, which was broadcast on Ukrainian television.
The artist has an Instagram account, which he maintains on his own. The singer daily delights fans with new photos from his life and communication with them.
