Katie Melua (Katie Melua): Biography of the singer

Katie Melua was born on September 16, 1984 in Kutaisi. Since the girl's family often moved, her earlier childhood also passed in Tbilisi and Batumi. I had to travel because of the work of my father, a surgeon. And at the age of 8, Katie left her homeland, settling with her family in Northern Ireland, in the city of Belfast.

Katie's first singing experience was participation in a children's music competition, amusingly called "The Stars Turn Up Their Noses." And immediately the 15-year-old singer found amazing success - she turned out to be the winner! The composition Mariah Carey Without You became happy for the girl, but she did not count on anything, participating in the casting for fun.

A diploma from the British School of Performing Arts was a great start in the world of music. Katy was interested in different directions and styles, including Irish folklore and Indian music.

The work of Eva Cassidy made a special impression on the girl. Upon learning that the singer had already died, Katy wrote the composition Faraway Voice.

After that, an event occurred that determined the fate of Katie Melua. Michael Butt, a composer who was engaged in the search and "promotion" of talents, came to her school.

He needed jazz band performers. After much hesitation, Katie sang her song dedicated to Eva for Butt, and struck him to the core. 

He admitted that involuntarily there were associations with Edith Piaf and Eartha Kidd. Katy was offered a contract with DRAMATICO, the famous record company.

However, studies at the School of Arts continued, because it was necessary to obtain a diploma. His future star received in 2003.

First collaboration 

Kathy collaborated with Michael Batt on the album Call of the Search. This disc was a huge success - in less than six months, more than 1 million copies were sold. 

He took a leading position in the charts not only in the UK, but also in many European countries, taking "gold" and "platinum" repeatedly. The album was also very popular in New Zealand, South Africa, and Hong Kong. As for the UK, at home it became "platinum" six times!

Such a stir brought the artist to television - she was invited to perform in the Royal Variety show program. It was there that the singer met Queen Elizabeth II, who confessed to Kathy that her performance on the radio made an impression. After such a statement, Queen Katie became super popular in England, and then received worldwide recognition.

Katy began to constantly tour Europe and America. The second disc of the singer, Peace by Peace, recorded in 2005, belongs to the same period. He is famous for being at the top of the ratings on the day of his appearance.

Cathy recorded a cover version of Just Like Heaven for the song by CURE for the movie. In 2007, the singer's third studio album, Pictures, was released.

The following year, IFPI recognized Katy as the No. 1 singer in Europe. Soon, Katie "marked" in the Guinness Book of Records, giving an underwater concert in the North Sea at a depth exceeding 300 meters.

In 2013, Katie was again honored to appear before the Queen - she performed at the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Elizabeth.

While attending art school, Kathy met Luke Pritchard, a member of THE Kooks. The couple began an affair, young people were going to formalize the relationship. 

This continued until 2005, when the boyfriend decided that he was uncomfortable next to a more popular star than himself. Katie didn't take it easy. But later she met the titled athlete James Toseland.

Impressed by this event, the singer wrote the song Forgetting All My Troubles, and then the song I Never Fall, I Always Jamp. James was very impressed with the fact that Katie was not interested in his sporting achievements - she was interested in personal qualities. 

On Christmas Eve 2011, the couple got engaged, and in the fall of 2012, Katie and James got married. After an injury in training, Toseland left the sport and created a rock band, in which he invited Kathy's brother.
