Love Battery (Love Battery): Band Biography

Commercial success is not the only component of the long existence of musical groups. Sometimes project participants are more important than what they do. Music, the formation of a special environment, the influence on the views of other people form a special mixture that helps to keep "afloat". The Love Battery team from America is a good confirmation of the possibility of developing according to this principle.

The history of the emergence of Love Battery

A band called Love Battery formed in 1989. The founders of the team were the guys who left the projects Room Nine, Mudhoney, Crisis Party. Ron Rudzitis was the leader and vocalist, Tommy “Bonehead” Simpson played bass guitar, Kevin Whitworth owned a regular guitar, and Daniel Peters was on drums.

The guys did not think for a long time about the name of their newly created team. They took the title of a song by the British punk band Buzzcocks as the basis. The team members associated their work with this very “favorite battery”, which gives a powerful energy charge.

Styles used, Love Battery levels

During its appearance, the team chose an innovative direction of work for itself. The guys began to mix the intense sound of the guitars with the pulsating rhythms of the drums. All this was accompanied by bright vocals.

The loud, swirling performance was the result of the experiments of rock in the 60s and 70s and punk in the 80s. Both directions gave rise to grunge, which arose in the early 90s. It is this area that the members of the team have chosen for themselves. The group is called the experimenters who gave rise to the complex sound characteristic of the new era.

Drummer Daniel Peters promptly left the band, not having time to participate in the recording of the debut single with the guys. His replacement was former Skin Yard member Jason Finn. In the updated line-up, the group released their first single, which became the only full-fledged composition of the group. The song "Between The Eyes" was recorded at Sub Pop Studios in their native Seattle.

The first works of "mini" format

Shortly after recording the first song, Tommy Simpson left the band. He was replaced by former U-Men bassist Jim Tillman. In this composition, the team recorded their first mini-album in 1990. The record was named after the previously released single, which became the basis of this work.

In 1991, the guys recorded the song "Foot" b / w "Mr. Soul", and also released another EP disc "Out Of Focus". In 1992, the group supplemented the previously created "Between The Eyes" with new compositions and released the album as a full version.

Release of a successful album

In 1992, Love Battery released their second album, which became popular. The record "Dayglo" is called the only demanded work of the team. Shortly after recording the album, bassist Jim Tillman left the band. He was temporarily replaced by Tommy Simpson, who was present in the original state of the team. The permanent line-up included Bruce Fairbairn, formerly of Green River, Mother Love Bone.

The band released their second full length album Far Gone a year later. The guys hoped for the success received with the previous disc. Things initially did not go as expected.

The album was supposed to be released on PolyGram Records. True, legal problems with Sub Pop Records did not allow this to be done. The team had to quickly create a version that did not have the desired quality. This served to form a low public interest in creation. The team planned to fix the bugs later, but the new release never happened.

Label change, new misses

Love Battery after the fiasco with the album decided to change partners. The guys tried to work with different studios. In 1994 they finally left Sub Records by signing with Atlas Records. Here they immediately released Nehru Jacket, an EP version of the album.

In 1995, the band recorded a full-length album "Straight Freak Ticket". Contrary to the expectations of the band members, the label did not want to promote their work. The record brought low sales, weak public interest. As a result of failures, drummer Jason Finn leaves the band. The guys have been looking for a replacement for a long time. Periodically, the group was supported by Daniel Peters, who was part of the original lineup.

Participation of Love Battery in the filming of a documentary

In 1996, the group was invited to appear in a documentary film dedicated to the formation of the musical direction of grunge. The team figured as the founders of the style. In the film, Love Battery performed their first single live.

Love Battery activity in the present

For a long time the team was inactive. In 1999, the guys released their fifth album "Confusion Au Go Go". After that, the group again interrupted work for a long time. The team could not find a permanent drummer. Former members supported the team, but did not agree to work on a permanent basis.

All members again scattered to different groups, but Love Battery did not officially stop its activities. The band came together to perform in 2002 and again in 2006. The group's concerts also took place in 2011, as well as a year later. In the press, the guys announced plans to resume the work of the team, but the team's new projects have not yet appeared.
