MAGIC! (Magic!): Band Biography

Canadian band MAGIC! works in an interesting musical style of reggae fusion, which includes a combination of reggae with many styles and trends. The group was founded in 2012. However, despite such a late appearance in the music world, the group achieved fame and success. Thanks to the song Rude, the band gained recognition even outside of Canada. The group began to be invited to collaborate with famous singers and performers, as well as more often recognized on the streets.

The history of the creation of the group MAGIC!

All members of MAGIC! originally from Toronto, Canada's largest city. The team of musicians was created in a completely random way. Soloist Nasri met Mark Pellizzer in a music studio. Shortly after the fateful meeting, the friends wrote a song for Chris Brown Don't Judge Me.

After working together, Nasri spoke about the connection between himself and Mark. He called it more artistic than the "chemistry" between the songwriters. The guys wrote lyrics not only for Chris Brown, but also for other famous singers who enjoyed considerable success.

Working with each other was very inspiring for the musicians. So a few weeks later, while Mark was playing guitar, Nasri suggested they start a band similar to the Police. Friends invited two more musicians to the band - bass guitarist Ben and drummer Alex.

The beginning of the musical journey of the MAGIC group!

After the unification, the group began to search for themselves in the musical direction. After trying many styles and genres, the group decided and began to write and also perform songs in the direction of reggae.

Popularity was not long in coming, photos and singles of the MAGIC group! began to appear almost everywhere, the guys began to recognize on the street.

A year later, on October 12, 2013, the band released the song Rude, thanks to which they soon received a resounding success. The single took a leading position in the charts and charts, and quickly sold out around the world. 

The song Don't Kill The Magic was written as the second single from the self-titled album on April 4, 2014 and already took the 22nd position on the Canadian Hot 100. A few months later, the band released the album Don't Kill The Magic, which peaked at the 5th position on the Canadian Albums Chart and number 6 on the Billboard 200, thus demonstrating excellent results.

Joint performance

In addition to original songs, MAGIC! recorded the song Cut Me Deep with Shakira. And also performed at the football championship. The team participated in many promotional campaigns with several well-known performers.

Musical path of the participants

Soloist Nasri

The main vocalist Nasri and the initiative creator of the group was born and raised in one of the cities of Canada. He started singing at the age of 6. He participated in the school choir, with which he took a leading position in city song competitions.

At the age of 19, Nasri presented his demo to a radio station. A little later, he signed an agreement with Universal Canada. A few years later, in 2002, he won the John Lennon competition with a song he wrote with Adam Messinger.

Nasri then released several solo singles, which were played on radio stations in Canada.

Nasri has also worked with Justin Bieber, Shakira, Cheryl Cole, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown and other famous artists on songs. In addition, he was the production duo The Messengers along with Adam Messinger.

Guitarist Mark Pellitzer

Mark Pellizzer started playing the piano at the age of 6. Then he traveled around the city to perform at festivals, playing various musical instruments and learning new genres. When he was 16 years old, he began producing and also working on albums in the studios.

Mark studied piano most extensively at York University. Then he moved to the University of Toronto, where he studied jazz guitar.

The aspiring singer and musician self-released two songs You Changed Me and Lifetime.

Bassist Ben Spivak

Ben Spivak studied piano at the age of 4, and from the age of 9 he mastered the guitar. In the lower grades, the future musician played the cello and double bass.

Ben attended Humber College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in jazz performance with a major in bass guitar. He later formed the band Cavern with friends, with whom he toured Toronto and wrote several original compositions.

Drummer Alex Tanas

Alex Tanas started playing drums at the age of 13, he studied at a public school in Toronto.

Alex wrote and also toured with the Justin Nozuka band for about 6 years. In addition, he performed with such musicians as Kira Isabella and Pat Robitaille.
