The history of the creation and composition of the group No Doubt

It all started with the desire of Eric Stefani and John Spence in 1986 to create their own group. Initially, the guys called their project Apple Core. Eric played keyboards, and John became the lead singer and frontman.

To attract the attention of the public, Erica's younger sister Gwen was invited to the new team. The girl took on the functions of a backing vocalist.

The group lacked musicians, so the guys wanted to expand the group. In this composition, they gave the first concerts. Not having their own material, the musicians covered the hits of their favorite bands.

Bassist Tony Kanel joined the band in 1987. Behind Tony Kanel was not only a musical education, but also the experience of a manager.

Not surprisingly, it was he who was responsible for the "promotion" of the group and the organization of concerts, as well as other events.

The new team has just begun to appear the first fans. And here, like a bolt from the blue, the news sounded that John Spence had killed himself.

It became known that John shot himself. The true reasons why the musician decided to voluntarily die, no one knows. John Spence's favorite expression was "No Doubt".

The musicians decided to take a new creative pseudonym. Now they performed as No Doubt, which means "without a doubt" in English.

After John's death, the guys could not decide for a long time what to do. Then, by voting, Gwen became the main soloist. By 1989, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young joined the band.

A few years later, the prestigious label Interscope Records became interested in the group. The owners of the label were not frightened off by the age of the guys. At that time, they were all in college.

Despite the busy schedule, the guys managed not only to record tracks, study and perform at concerts, but also earn extra money.

For example, Gwen and Eric worked as salespeople, Adrian was a waiter, and Tom was closest to creativity, working with musical equipment.

Music by No Doubt

In 1992, the musicians presented their debut album, which received the “modest” name No Doubt. Despite the fact that the musicians gave 100% and, in their opinion, wrote "delicious" tracks, the collection was not a commercial success.

Group No Doubt was not embarrassed by this situation. The musicians got into the van and went with their concert to the US West. They wanted to acquaint music lovers with their work. The plans of the musicians were realized.

In addition, in the same 1992, the musicians presented the video clip Trapped In A Box. It was later revealed that the lack of interest in the debut record caused a backlash from the label. The contract was terminated.

The group No Doubt went on an independent "swimming". The guys had to record a new collection almost in underground conditions.

Quite often, the recording studio was the soloist's garage, which was located on Beacon Street, so the album was called The Beacon Street Collection.

The presentation of the disc took place in 1995. However, the guys did not have the opportunity to sell the collection in stores, because the musicians did not sign a contract with them.

Entrepreneurial musicians began to "promote" the album on their own. They distributed the collection in supermarkets and at their concerts. The activity of young people was again noticed by the Interscope Records label, and therefore offered to conclude a contract.

The guys recorded several demo versions, and only then a full-fledged album. And as soon as the group gained at least some stability, Eric Stefani announced that he was going to leave the group.

Eric has received a tempting offer. The fact is that the young man became the animator of The Simpsons project.

Soon No Doubt presented a new collection Tragic Kingdom. The album was recorded at 11 recording studios. The album received the original sound. Echoes of punk, ska, pop and new wave are heard in this disc.

Despite the brightness, the collection sold poorly. A year later, the incredible happened - the disc was on the 175th position of the Billboard Top 200. In particular, the musical composition Just A Girl started from the 10th position on the chart.

It took the band 7 years to go public as headliners and not as a local punk band. In the mid-1990s, the Tragic Kingdom album was certified platinum twice.

In 1996, one of the most romantic ballads of the American group Don't Speak was launched on local radio stations.

The musical composition took a leading position in the charts in several countries. Most importantly, the number of sales of the new album has increased.

In 1997, the musicians were nominated for the American Music Awards in the Best New Artist category. Unfortunately, the musicians were not able to support the award in their hands, but this increased the number of fans of the band.

Interestingly, the musicians also failed to win the Grammy Award, although the team was nominated in such categories as "Best New Album" and "Best Rock Album".

In autumn, the musicians presented a video clip for the track “Don't Speak. And thanks to this clip, the soloists of the group received an award from the MTV Video Music Awards as the best video.

In turn, the "chain wave" sparked interest in the early work of No Doubt. The first two albums of the group began to be sold. The musicians decided to "relaunch" the second and third collections.

The peak of the group's popularity

All 1998 the musicians spent on tour. The late 1990s saw the "peak" of No Doubt's popularity. Returning to the United States of America, it became known that the musicians were preparing a new album.

In 1999, work was again suspended. It's all because of another tour.

In 2000, the musicians presented the song Ex-Girlfriend. A month later, a video clip was recorded for this track, which was first shown by the MTV channel.

Thus began a planned marketing campaign to "promote" the new collection in the history of No Doubt.

The band's musicians have appeared on several popular music programs. In the spring of the same 2000, the band's discography was replenished with the Return Of Saturn album. A few days later, the video clip of Simple Kind Of Life was released.

No Doubt is touring in support of their new album. In addition, the new collection received the status of "platinum" twice. After visiting the major cities of the United States of America, the artists went to Europe.

Journalists said that upon their return to the USA, the musicians would start recording a new album. The soloists of the group did not confirm this information.

In an interview, they denied plans to record a new compilation. Many fans took this information as a hint about the breakup of the group.

A year later, Tom Dumont reassured the fans and said that the release of the new album would be soon. The group No Doubt began to conduct musical experiments.

New experiment compilation Rock Steady

The sound of reggae, pop and bombastic rock is clearly audible in the new collection. The Rock Steady compilation was appreciated by fans and music critics.

The hits of the album were the tracks Hey Baby and Hella Good. The second composition even received a Grammy Award. After the presentation of the collection, the guys went on a US tour.

During this period, Gwen Stefani began to "move away" from the team even more. She showed herself as a solo singer. The girl even managed to play in Martin Scorsese's movie "The Aviator".

In 2003 and 2006 Gwen has released solo albums. Tom Dumont also began to realize himself as a solo artist, and Adrian Young took the place of a guest musician. Tony Kanel became the producer of the singer Pink.

The musicians began to work outside the musical group. But in 2008, they again joined forces. In the same year, information appeared about the release of a new album. A year later, the musicians even performed on the same stage.

In 2010, Icon hits album was released. In 2012, the band's discography was replenished with the album Push and Shove.
