"One in a Canoe" is a truly amazing indie band, originally from Lviv, which has no rivals. The guys create unique music to which you want to live, dream and create.
History of the group One in a canoe
It all started in 2010, in one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine - Lviv. The initiator of the creation of the group under his wing gathered 7 inspired musicians who had not known each other until that time.
Interestingly, the band members are not professional musicians. The soloists held the first rehearsals. In 2010, there were 3 vocalists in the group "One in a Canoe" at once. During the year, the composition of the group was constantly changing - someone left, someone arrived.
The team is in crisis. Soon Irina Shvaydak and guitarist Ustim Pokhmursky decided to unite their forces and create their own team, the “dawn” came in the group “One in a Canoe”. The guys, in fact, became the "parents" of the team.
The name “One in a canoe” arose quite by accident: Irina, while reading material about Indians on the Internet, saw one of them - Vikeninnish, which means “one in a canoe”. The name inspired Irina, so the guys decided to choose this option.
The secret of the group's success
The team also has an individual logo. The team's logo resembles a flower with petals and depicts the resonator holes of a traditional Ukrainian bandura. Each petal symbolizes a boat.
Over time, the team began to gain the first fans. With the first "fans" began and concerts.
Interestingly, "One in a Canoe" is a free group that develops without the participation of a producer. All organizational moments the soloists of the collective decided on their own.
The well-known Ukrainian producer Pastukh noted: “For me, the phenomenon of the “One in a Canoe” collective is incomprehensible. To promote the group, the guys did not participate in any music show or competition.
Their songs are played on the radio. And they manage to collect full halls of listeners. Presumably, musicians owe their popularity to philosophical songs with minimal accompaniment.
At the beginning of their career, the soloists did not plan to make money on music. In addition to rehearsals and performances, the musicians of the One in a Canoe group worked. They occupied jobs remote from creativity.
The group was rapidly gaining popularity and the guys thought, why not "monetize" their talent? And, in fact, it all began.
Creative way and music of the group
In 2012, the Moscow newspaper Metro invited a Ukrainian indie band to the Metro On Stage festival. The group took an honorable 1st place, which increased the number of their fans.
Not all Russian-speaking music lovers understood what the soloists of the Odin in a Canoe group were singing about, the audience enthusiastically watched the artists, seeing them off the stage with a standing ovation.
In 2016, the group presented their debut album, which was called "One in a Canoe". The first collection included 25 musical compositions. In support of the album, the musicians went on a big tour of Ukrainian cities.
At the time of the release of the first album, there were three permanent vocalists in the Odyn v Kanoe group: Irina Shvaidak, Ustim Pokhmursky and Elena Davydenko.
During the Ukrainian tour, the talented Elena Davydenko left the band. The girl's place was taken by Igor Dzikovsky.
Unexpectedly, before going on a big tour of Ukraine, another event happened in the creative life of the Odin in a Canoe group.
In the spring of 2016, the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Cambridge became interested in talented Ukrainian singers and invited them to the annual Ukrainian event Literary Vsesvit Reading.
At the annual Ukrainian event, which took place in the UK, the group managed to perform. Grateful listeners gave the guys a standing ovation.
In 2017, the musical group received the prestigious Selection Award, presented by the Jam FM radio station, in the Breakthrough of the Year nomination.
"Odin in a canoe" is one of the most colorful groups in Ukraine. Musicians are a breath of fresh air for Ukrainian show business.
Group One in a canoe tonight
In the winter of 2019, the Odin in a Canoe group presented the video clip “I Have No Home” to fans of their work. In a few weeks, the clip has gained more than 3 million views.
Music critics commented on the video as follows: "Impressive, highly professional work."
In the spring of 2010, the musicians went on another tour. This time the Odyn v Kanoe group visited Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, and Great Britain.
