Sonya Kay (real name - Sofia Khlyabich) was born on February 24, 1990 in the city of Chernivtsi. The girl from an early age was surrounded by a creative and musical atmosphere. The father of the future singer, Sergey, worked as the artistic director of the Cheremosh Folk Song and Dance Ensemble. My mother, Lydia, also performed in the same ensemble. She had a very beautiful voice.
The famous aunt Sonya, her mother's sister Sofia Rotaru, also performed in the ensemble. Accordingly, it is not surprising that from an early age the future singer showed interest in music. However, the girl understood that it was important to get an education. At first she studied at a school in Ukraine and at the same time at a college in Scotland. At the age of 14, she moved to the UK.
She subsequently spent 10 years there. In the UK, the singer studied first at Aldenham School, then at Cambridge of Visual and Performing Arts. After graduating from school, the singer entered the Chernivtsi State University at the Faculty of International Relations. A few years later she graduated with a master's degree. The singer also continued her studies in England. She graduated from Kingston University in London where she received her master's degree in interior design.
Musical career
Sonya Kay's musical career began in 2012. Then her first compositions "Rain" and "White Snow" were released. In the same year in Kyiv, the singer presented her first concert program and the first video clip. Then events developed rapidly. In the next two years, several more songs and music videos were released. The tracks "Vilna" and "Hug me" were very popular among fans.
End of 2015 and beginning of 2016 marked a new period in the work of Sonya Kay. The singer changed the genre and created a completely new tropical house project with deep house elements. The first work of the "renewed" performer was the song "I know I'm yours." Then the singer presented a new concert program in two languages - Ukrainian and English.
At the end of 2016, the singer released several more clips, which were warmly received by fans. Moreover, music critics also left positive reviews. Most of the songs recorded in 2016 came out thanks to the electronic duo Ost & Meyer. Ukrainian musicians took up the arrangement of songs.
2017 was also a busy year. In August, the song "Zoryaniy Soundtrack" was used as a musical accompaniment for the video of the Ukrainian brand Vovk. By the way, the video for this song was released in January 2017. In the autumn of the same year, Sonya Kay took part in the filming of the Ukrainian TV series "Kyiv Day and Night". She played the role of herself. The series also used her songs as the soundtrack.
On February 14, 2018, on Valentine's Day, Sonya Kay released her first mini-album "Listen to my heart". It included four songs. And in the same year, the performer had a unique opportunity to communicate with the famous English singer Dua Lipa. At the end of the year, the singer released the track "Jaguar". According to her, it was Dua Lipa who inspired her to write the composition.
In 2018-2019 the singer released several more songs and videos: “Live”, “Hodimo”, etc.

Now the singer continues to actively work on new tracks. One of the last works was the song "Porinai". Sonya Kay wrote this composition in 2020 and dedicated it to her husband.
In the near future, the performer plans to prepare a full-fledged concert program and perform with it. Moreover, Sonya Kay has more ambitious plans - to conquer the European scene. Sonya Kay announced her engagement in 2019. However, the name of the chosen one was not named. The wedding took place in 2020. It became known that Ukrainian hockey player Oleg Petrov became her husband. According to the performer, she prefers to separate her personal life and public life.
