Childhood of Tamara Gverdtsiteli

The famous singer was born on January 18, 1962 in the capital of Georgia. Now she has the royal name Tamara, and at birth her parents named her Tamriko.

Her father, Mikhail Gverdtsiteli, a cybernetic scientist, was a descendant of Georgian nobles who left their mark on the history of Georgia. The surname Gverdtsiteli in translation into Russian means "red-sided".

During the war with the Turks, Tamara's distant ancestor was wounded in battle, but continued to fight. For this, he received a nickname, which later became a surname.

The singer's mother, Inna Kofman, is an Odessa Jew, the daughter of a rabbi. Parents met in Tbilisi, where Inna was evacuated during the war.

During the evacuation, she was educated as a philologist, and subsequently worked as an educator in the capital's House of Pioneers.

From an early age, Tamara and her brother Pavel began to be interested in music. Perhaps they inherited this interest from their grandmother, a music teacher, daughter of a Georgian princess who received a Parisian education.

Mom Inna constantly worked with the children - she accompanied the singing Tamara on the piano, and with Pavel she studied mathematics that interested him. Subsequently, the brother graduated from a technical university, currently lives with his family in Tbilisi and works as an engineer.

Tamriko and music

Tamriko's musical talent manifested itself already at the age of 3, she was even invited to local television. Two years later, upon entering a music school, she was found to have absolute pitch, and a few years later she was invited to the all-Union famous children's ensemble of Rafael Kazaryan "Mziuri".

The musical career of the singer began with this ensemble. The girl is accustomed to confidently stay on stage, not to be shy in front of a full auditorium.

Unfortunately, while Tamara was intensively engaged in creative growth, her parents decided to divorce. Inna was left alone with two children, for whom the separation of their parents was a tragedy.

The beginning of a musical career

After leaving school, Tamara did not stop singing in Mziuri, she continued to perform and participate in various vocal competitions. At this time, she had already entered the Tbilisi Conservatory in the piano and composition department.

In 1982, Tamara Gverdtsiteli's debut album was released, thanks to which she became famous throughout the country.

The 1980s were marked for the singer by an increase in popularity and an extraordinary creative upsurge. The record Tamara Gverdtsiteli Sings, released in 1985, was a huge success, and the artist herself was invited to the jury of various competitions for musicians and vocalists.

In 1988, Tamara went to Bulgaria for the Golden Orpheus vocal competition, where she became the winner. After that, she became famous not only in the USSR, but also in Europe, and was invited to a festival in Italy.

In the late 1980s, the singer recorded Michel Legrand's famous song from the film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and sent it to the composer. Legrand managed to get the cassette and listen to the recording only two years later. He was struck by the singer's unforgettable voice and invited her to visit France.

In Paris, Legrand brought Tamara to the stage of the famous Olympia concert hall and introduced it to the public. The singer managed to conquer the capital of France with her voice from the first song.

The composer was so delighted with the talent of Tamara Gverdtsiteli that he offered her a joint project. The artist gladly accepted the offer, but was afraid that there would be difficulties with leaving the country.

Tamara was helped by the famous politician Alex Moskovich (a fan of her work). He quickly resolved the issues of moving the singer to Paris.

After a successful collaboration with Michel Legrand and Jean Drejak, Tamara Gverdtsiteli was offered a contract for 2 years. Unfortunately, she had to refuse a tempting offer because she was forbidden to take her family out of the country.

French period

In the late 1990s, Tamara Gverdtsiteli returned from abroad, but never returned to Georgia, and stayed with her family in Moscow.
