Classical music often sounded in the Saulskys' house, but Yuri himself adored the sound of jazz. He ran away from home to listen to his favorite pieces of music in the lobby of Moscow cinemas.

Then he entered the Gnesinka. He made his plans for education and career, but at the end of the 30s, the war broke out and he had to move his dreams. This was followed by evacuation and distribution to a military music school.
