early life

Adam Lambert was born January 29, 1982 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the eldest of two siblings. He and his family moved to San Diego, California shortly after Lambert was born.

He dreamed of becoming an artist at the age of 10. Around the same time, he played his first role. It was Linusa in the Lyceum play You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown in San Diego.

Delighted with the stage, Lambert took vocal lessons. He later appeared in several musicals in local theaters. Like Joseph and Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease and Chess. His voice coach, Lynn Broyles, along with Alex Urban, artistic director of the Children's Theater Network, were influential mentors for Lambert during this time.

Lambert visited San Diego Mt. Carmel High School, where he was involved in theatre, choir and jazz band. After high school, he moved to Orange County to attend college. However, shortly after enrolling, he changed his mind and decided that his real desire was to perform. He dropped out of school after only five weeks.

Early career

The performer moved to Los Angeles, California. There he earned money on odd jobs, trying to realize himself in the theater. He also tried his hand at music, performing in a rock band and doing studio sessions.

By 2004, Lambert had made a name for himself in the Los Angeles area. He had a small role in The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theater alongside film actor Val Kilmer. He also began regular appearances on The Zodiac Show. Toured with live music. The show was created by Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls. 

During his time with the Zodiac, Lambert impressed other performers with his vocal range. He also started writing his own music. One song, "Crawl Through Fire", was a collaboration with Madonna's guitarist Monte Pittman.

In 2005, Lambert landed an understudy role as Fiyero in the play Wicked. First with a touring cast, and then with a cast from Los Angeles.

American Idol finalist

Lambert came into the national spotlight in 2009. He became a finalist for the eighth season of the popular American Idol vocal competition. His rendition of Gary Jules' 2001 arrangement of "Mad World" earned him a standing ovation from the show's harshest critic, Simon Cowell. Lambert's vocal range, along with his jet-black hair and heavy mascara, put him on par with glamor rockers like Freddie Mercury and Gene Simmons.

Lambert and two other contestants, Danny Gokey and Chris Allen, were the only Season XNUMX finalists to never finish in the top three. Lambert was considered the leader in the competition, but was later beaten by dark horse candidate Chris Allen.

Critics speculated that Lambert lost because of his openly gay lifestyle. Lambert denies this rumor, however, saying that Allen won because of his talent.

The singer enjoyed great success with his third album The Original High (2015). Under the dance track "Ghost Town", the album debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold early next year.

Legacy Recordings released The Best Best of Adam Lambert in 2014, featuring commercial recordings from Glee and American Idol, as well as tracks from his first two studio recordings. In 2014, Adam played 35 shows with British rock band Queen in New Zealand, Australia, North America, Japan and Korea.

In 2015, QAL (Queen + Adam Lambert) hosted countless fans at 26 concerts in 11 European countries including the UK. At the 10th Annual Classic Rock and Roll Awards, QAL was awarded Band of the Year.
