Getting older, Anders begins to try himself in youth groups. He spends quite a lot of time doing this. In the period of the late 80s and early 90s, the music of British rock bands was on the wave of popularity. Therefore, the bands that Trentemøller was a member of performed mostly post-punk and noise pop. Often these were covers of songs by famous bands: Joy Division, The Smiths, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen. Anders has repeatedly noted that these performers are still a source of inspiration for him to this day.

The first musical group of the future composer Flow was founded when all members were no more than 16 years old. No one had the necessary musical skills. Therefore, the guys tried themselves in a variety of styles, often imitating their favorite bands.

As Trentemøller himself notes, DJing, although it gave him fame, was primarily a way to make money. In this way, he could not be constrained by means and play in groups calmly. He liked this job better.

The rise of Anders Trentemøller's career

For the first time the general public learned about Trentemøller as a DJ in the late 90s. Then, together with DJ TOM, they created a house project "Trigbag". There were many trips with performances throughout Denmark and abroad. However, the group did not last long and broke up in 2000.

Anders Trentemöller style

In an interview, Trentemøller said that he prefers to compose music "the old fashioned way", without looking at the computer. The musician calls keyboards his main instrument: he writes most of the music for albums while sitting at the piano or synthesizer in the studio.

Although Trentemøller is known for his electronic music, he simply refers to himself as a musician. He prefers the real sound of guitar, drums and keyboards to any computer sounds. Anders often writes music by ear, without going into details on the monitor.

According to Anders, in the 90s, electronic music freed itself from the shackles of large studios. It became possible to write it while sitting at home. This resulted in both good and bad consequences. The main drawback was that the music collected in the program was often similar to each other. Trentemøller was determined to make his own unique melodies.

The artist's early music was inspired by 90s rock bands. Trip-hop, minimal, glitch and darkwave were present in her sound. In the later work of Trentemøller, the music smoothly turned into synthwave and pop.

Current creativity

On June 4, 2021, two singles "Golden Sun" and "Shaded Moon" were released, which became the first after more than a year's break. It is clearly noticeable that Trentemøller has returned to a full instrumental performance.
