Arno Babajanyan: Biography of the composer

Arno Babajanyan is a composer, musician, teacher, public figure. Even during his lifetime, Arno's talent was recognized at the highest level. In the early 50s of the last century, he became a laureate of the Stalin Prize of the third degree.

Childhood and youth

The composer's date of birth is January 21, 1921. He was born in the territory of Yerevan. Arno was lucky enough to be brought up in a primordially intelligent family. His parents devoted themselves to teaching.

The head of the family adored classical music. He also played the flute skillfully. Children were not born in the family for a long time, so Arno's parents decided to take custody of a girl who had recently become an orphan.

Arno Babajanyan has been fond of music since childhood. Already at the age of three, he independently learned to play the harmonica. Friends of the Babajanyan family advised parents not to bury the gift of their son. They listened to the advice of caring people, and sent their child to a music school, which worked on the basis of the Yerevan Conservatory.

Soon he presented his parents with the first musical composition, which greatly amused his father. As a teenager, he won a significant victory in the competition of young performers. The achievement motivated the young man to move on.

He firmly decided to connect his life with music. After graduating from high school, he entered the conservatory. Two years later, the young man caught himself thinking that nothing good would shine for him in Yerevan. Arno was firm in his convictions.

At the end of the 30s, a talented young man moved to Moscow. He studies under the guidance of E. F. Gnesina at the music school. A few years later, he entered the Moscow Conservatory with a degree in piano, and a couple of years later, Arno was transferred back to the EGC.

At home, he improved his knowledge under the guidance of V. G. Talyan. He was a member of the creative association of the Armenian powerful handful. After the end of the war, he again moved to the capital of Russia to continue his studies in graduate school.

The creative path of Arno Babajanyan

In the early 50s, Arno returned to his homeland. By the way, Babajanyan sang odes to Yerevan throughout his life, although he spent most of his life in the capital of Russia. Upon arrival home, he got a job by profession. At first, he was satisfied with the position he received at the conservatory.

After a few years, he makes the final decision regarding the place of residence. Arno moves to Moscow, and occasionally visits his homeland. Infrequent visits to his native city - almost always resulted in the composition of musical works, which today can be included in the "golden collection" of the composer.

By the time he moved to the capital, the maestro had already composed the main pieces of music. We are talking about "Armenian Rhapsody" and "Heroic Ballad". The composer's works were appreciated by other Russian maestros. He had enough fans, both in his historical homeland and in Russia.

Another work of the composer deserves special attention. We are talking about the play "Nocturne". When Kobzon first heard the composition, he begged Arno to remake it into a song, but the composer was not inclined during his lifetime. Only after the death of the maestro did the poet Robert Rozhdestvensky compose a poetic text for the play Nocturne. The work often sounded from the lips of Soviet performers.

In the capital of Russia, Arno focused on composing songs for films and pop music. Babajanyan repeatedly said that working on a song requires less time and talent than composing symphonic music.

This creative period is marked by close work with Russian poets. Together with them, he creates a number of brilliant works. In the mid-60s of the last century, the composer, together with R. Rozhdestvensky and M. Magomayev, formed a team. Each composition that came out from the pen of this trio instantly became a hit. During this period of time, the popularity of Magomayev in the literal sense of the word grew before our eyes.

A man throughout his life was with only one woman - Teresa Hovhannisyan. Young people met in the capital's conservatory. After the wedding, Teresa left her career to devote herself to her family. They lived a happy family life.

In 53, the family grew by one person. Teresa gave birth to a son from Arno. Ara (the only son of Babajanyan) - followed in the footsteps of his famous father.

The main highlight of the composer's appearance was a huge nose. In an interview, he admitted that in his youth he was very complex because of this feature. In his mature years, he adopted his appearance.

He realized that the "ugly" nose is an integral part of his image. Many eminent artists created portraits of the maestro, focusing on this particular part of the face.

Death of Arno Babajanyan

Even at the very dawn of his strength, the composer was given a disappointing diagnosis - blood cancer. At that time, in the Soviet Union, oncological diseases were practically not treated. A doctor from France was sent to Arno. He gave him treatment.

Treatment and support of loved ones have done their job. After the diagnosis, he still lived 30 happy years, and died on November 11, 1983 in Moscow. The funeral ceremony took place in his hometown.
