Birth story of Bad Boys Blue

Bad Boys Blue began their journey to conquer the musical Olympus in 1984 in Germany. It all started with the fact that two owners of the popular Cologne recording studio Coconut Records (Tony Hendrik and his partner Karin Hartmann) were looking for candidates to perform the song LOVE in My Car.

For this they were ready to contribute to the creation of a new group. At first, the authors of the future hit were looking for among London musicians.

Having not found suitable candidates, they decided to follow the advice of one of their acquaintances and invite musician Andrew Thomas, an American by birth, who performs in Cologne as a DJ, to cooperate.

Thomas also introduced the owners of the record label to Trevor Taylor, and he, in turn, introduced John McInerney.

Thus, three completely different people came together: American Thomas, Englishman McInerney and a native of Jamaica - Trevor Taylor.

There was a lot of controversy over the name of the team. There were several options that necessarily included the word bad. As a result, they agreed on the phrase Bad Boys Blue, which can literally be translated as "bad boys in blue."

But, according to relative Andrew Thomas, the word bad among black Americans means cool, and blue means not only the blue color of clothing, but also the concept of "sad or lonely." It seemed interesting that all the words of the name began with the same letter.

Golden composition of the group Bad Boys Blue

In addition to John McInerney, Andrew Thomas and Trevor Taylor, five other musicians performed in the band. Trevor Bannister replaced Trevor Taylor, who left in 1989, then in 1995 he was replaced by Mo Russell, who in 2000 gave way to Kevin McCoy.

From 2006 to 2011 Carlos Ferreira performed with John McInerney, after which Kenny Krayzee Lewis stayed in the group for a short time. After 2011, John performed alone. He was accompanied by two backing vocalists, one of whom was his wife.

All the musicians who were part of the group were interesting and talented, but, indeed, the trio of the founders of the Bad Boys Blue group - Taylor, McInerney and Thomas - can really be called the "golden" line-up. It was they who raised the group to the highest level, and the hits they performed are popular to this day.

John McInerney

The childhood and youth of the musician

The permanent member of the group, who has gone through a quarter-century career, was born on September 7, 1957 in England, in the city of Liverpool. The boy lost his mother early, so his grandmother raised him and his brother.

As a teenager, John became interested in football and was part of the local youth team. After graduating from an educational institution, the future musician worked a little on the stock exchange, then decided to try his luck in Germany, where he got a job as a decorator.

Personal life

A year after the founding of the group, during the next concert, McInerney met his future wife, Yvonne. Despite the fact that the girl did not become a fan of the famous band, they got married. In February 1989, their first child was born, who was named Ryan Nathan. The second son, Wayne, was born three years later.

Continuing his creative musical activity, the artist did not forget about his hobby. As a great beer lover, he owned several Cologne pubs. He even repaired the last acquired institution with pleasure.

Now John is the only member of the Bad Boys Blue group. He continues to make music, tours and performs remixes of his band's popular hits.

His performances are accompanied by his current wife Sylvia and her partner Edith Miracle. They do backing vocals.

Trevor Taylor Story

The second member of the group was born in Jamaica on January 11, 1958. When he reached adolescence, his parents decided to move to Europe. Trevor is a rather original personality.

Even before joining the Bad Boys Blue, he played in the band UB 40, imitating Bob Marley. Like McInerney, Trevor was fond of football, but his main hobby was cooking. He even managed to work as a chef in restaurants in Birmingham and Cologne.

Trevor Taylor was the band's lead vocalist for several years. After the decision of the producers to replace him with McInerney, Trevor left the band and took up solo performances. In January 2008, he died of a heart attack.

History of Andrew Thomas

The third member of the team was the oldest. He was born in Los Angeles on May 20, 1946 in the family of a musician with many children. He was going to devote his life to teaching and was engaged in psychology and philosophy.

After moving from America to London, the future musician worked there at the American Embassy. He moved to Cologne for the girl he liked.

He began to sing in London, but his repertoire was more blues.

Andrew Thomas was John McInerney's longest collaborator, but left the band after tensions arose in 2005. The musician died in 2009 from cancer.

The band's music was composed by Tony Hendrik. It was he who wrote the best song of the group You're a Woman, which became the hallmark of Bad Boys Blue, thanks to which he was very popular. Remixes of it are still heard at retro concerts.
