The guys demonstrate that jazz can be different. It can take any form. Over a long career, the artists have made a dizzying journey from cover band to Grammy winners.

Great news for Ukrainian fans - in 2022 the band will visit Kyiv. The Canadian team will perform for the first time in the capital of Ukraine. The musicians will present a new LP Talk Memory.

History of creation and composition of BadBadNotGood

It all started when Matthew Tavares, Alexander Sowinski and Chester Hansen met at a jazz event in Toronto. The guys caught themselves on common musical tastes, and in the end they “put together” their own project.

The artists not only looked good together, but also made cool tracks. Soon they presented a cover of a track from the Gucci Mane repertoire. The composition Lemonad was incredibly warmly received by the public.

They took performance lessons from jazz academy teachers. Soon, the artists presented their “guru” with the composition Odd Future, but the experts went over the work with a “tank”, noting that the track does not carry any musical value.

The position of the musicians changed radically after the release of The Odd Future Sessions Part 1. The artists received "respect" from Tyler. And The Creator helped the song go viral with his comments.

On the wave of popularity, the debut EP of the guys premiered. BBNG's work was reduced to Bandcamp. The collection included unreal cool covers processed by BadBadNotGood. The compositions really got a second life. The band's popularity began to grow exponentially.

Presentation of the debut album BBNG

In the autumn of the same 2011, the band's discography was replenished with the debut disc of the same name. Note that it was recorded during a 3-hour studio session. The collection received good reviews from experts. Critics noted that the musicians managed to release modern jazz without pretensions to "cute" parties. In support of the collection, the artists held a number of concerts.

Soon the musicians got acquainted with the influential producer Frank Dukes (Canada). Acquaintance of creative people has grown into fruitful cooperation. Frank co-wrote some of the BBNG tracks. In 2011-2012, the artists presented live recordings.

The release of the second studio album took place a year later. The guys did not differ in originality, so they called the disc simply and concisely - BBNG2. The musicians indicated that persons over 21 years old did not take part in the recording of the collection. The disc collected not only original tracks, but also covers.

During this period of time, the artists toured incredibly a lot. They did not deny themselves the pleasure of performing at the best venues in the country. In addition, the stars lit up in the residence of the Coachella festival.

Around the same period of time, the musicians shared a little secret with their fans. It turned out that they are working closely on recording their third studio album. The release of the LP was preceded by the release of the singles Hedron, CS60, Can't Leave The Night and Sustain.

Collection III was already enjoyed by fans in 2014. It was released in several formats: on disc and vinyl. Also, everyone could buy a digital copy. Longplay significantly strengthened the authority of Canadians. After the premiere of the collection, they significantly expanded the geography of concerts.

Sour Soul album premiere

A year later, the premiere of another "delicious" novelty took place. Sour Soul was mixed by Lex Records in collaboration with Ghostface Killah. By the way, this is the first work, which was headed by tracks saturated with heavy "street music" and light notes of jazz. In support of the LP, the guys went on a long tour. Ghostface Killah performed several times with the artists.

During this period of time, Leland Whitty entered the stage along with the main cast. Note that he became an unofficial member of the group. The team, as never before, needed a musician to convey the whole "taste" of the tracks of the new LP. Having skated several concerts with the guys, Leland went with them to the recording studio. In 2016, the artist has already officially become part of BadBadNotGood.

The premiere of the fifth studio album in a row took place already in the updated line-up. The disc received the modest name IV. It was released on Innovative Leisure. The recording of the collection took an unrealistic number of invited musicians. The LP was the BBC Radio 6 Music Album of the Year. For several years, the guys toured a lot.

Musician James Hill joined as a touring member. He replaced Tavares, who was focusing on his solo project and production. The guys worked out concerts in North America, Europe and Australia.

In 2019, the team announced that they were “tied up” with concert activity for the time being. There was also some very sad news. This year, Matthew Tavares finally said goodbye to the group. He devoted his entire time to the solo project. Note that he is still listed as the lyricist of BadBadNotGood.

BadBadNotGood: our days

In 2020, the guys planned to resume concert activities. Most likely, they would have carried out their plans, if not for one "but". The coronavirus pandemic, and the problems arising from the disease, pushed the artists' plans forward. But the guys said that they are working on a new record. In early 2020, they released the single Goodbye Blue, along with the song Glide (Goodbye Blue Pt. 2).

Alas, the release of the disc did not take place in 2020. The situation changed a year later. Talk Memory was released in 2021. The release of the record was preceded by the singles Signal from the Noise and Beside April. To support the record before release, the band announced a limited series of Memory Catalog magazines.

“We study music from different eras. It's important for us guys to look back. Musical background matters. I think the main message of our new LP is to learn from the older generation in all areas. We must imbibe their wisdom and experience. We can say that our new record is a kind of torch that we pass on to the younger generation, ”say BadBadNotGood.
