Two sisters sing in the Brick & Lace collective: Nyanda and Naila Thorborn. Initially, the group consisted of three girls. An additional member was the sister of the current lineup, Tasha.

The childhood of the Thorborn sisters
The Thorborn sisters were born in Jamaica and spent their childhood in Kingston. The parents of famous singers are a native Jamaican father and an American mother from New York.
Nyanda was born on April 15, 1978, Naila on November 27, 1983. Two more girls grew up in the family: the eldest and the youngest Kandas. Since childhood, the sisters were fond of music, wrote their own lyrics, sang parodies of famous creations.
The girls were interested in directions: reggae, R&B, hip-hop, pop, country, which influenced the creation of their mixed style. After graduation, the sisters moved to America, where they were educated at college and university.
The history of the name of the group Brick & Lace
Initially, the team was simply called Lace, which means lace in English. This proposal was made by the mother of the singers.
The woman imagined her daughters just so tender and beautiful. Over time, the girls realized that something was missing. This is how the additive Brick appeared, meaning "brick".
The name of the combination of two words symbolized the mixed style of performance, as well as the duality of female nature. The participants position this as a manifestation of hooliganism and tenderness, which they choose according to their mood.
Brick & Lace, being unknown performers, worked for promotion, actively performing at various concerts. On May 24, 2007, the girls were lucky enough to replace Lady Sovereign at Gven Stefany's performance in New Jersey. It was the band's first major stage appearance.
Beginning of creativity
The group was originally produced by the famous singer Acon. It was within the walls of the Kon Live Distribution recording studio, which belongs to a celebrity, that the girls recorded their debut album.
The Love is Wicked compilation began to conquer listeners on September 4, 2007. The song of the same name from the composition of the first album quickly became popular. The hit stayed in the chat rooms of many European countries for 48 weeks.
After the success of the first album, the sisters decided to consolidate their popularity with concerts. In 2008, the girls traveled to many countries in Europe and Africa. Unlike most famous performers, the Brick & Lace group paid special attention to the "black" continent.
This contributed to increasing interest in the group. In 2010, the sisters repeated the tour, trying to maintain popularity. The scope of the group already included the countries of Asia.
Creative development of Brick & Lace
Despite active touring, the duet members did not stop composing and recording new songs. In 2008-2009 the girls released several hits: Cry on Me, Bad To Di Bone, Room Service. Having achieved the success of the compositions, Brick & Lace re-released the existing album, which included new hits.
New songs released: Bang Bang, Ring the Alarm, Shackles (2010). But the next album, contrary to the expectations of the "fans", was never released. In 2011, the duo announced a new song, What You Want. She was also credited with the title roles in a possible new compilation, but it did not appear.
In the same year, Nyanda's pregnancy became known. The group had to cancel some performances, but touring activity continued until the moment of the singer's birth. The contestant then announced the need for a break from work. Three months later, the concerts of the former composition resumed. During the "downtime" at the presentations, the younger Kandas replaced her sister.
At the beginning of their solo work, the members of the Brick and Lace group starred in the film Made in Jamaica (2006). The film told about the musical culture of the country. It starred many famous artists with Jamaican roots. The film focused on reggae, the influence of Jamaican culture on the world musical arrangement.
The uniqueness of the members of the Brick and Lace group
Despite their close relationship, the members of Brick & Lace have different types of appearance. The older Nyanda in terms of image corresponds to the term Lace. The girl has a “fluffy” figure, bleached curls, a feminine style of clothing. Naila has dark hair, a slender body, and a preference for loose-fitting clothing, which corresponds to the term Brick.
There is a similar division in terms of vocals. The older sister has a more sensual voice, a booming chant, while the younger one has a rougher timbre, a penchant for recitative.
