Calum Scott (Calum Scott): Biography of the artist

Calum Scott is a British singer-songwriter who first rose to prominence on season 9 of the British Got Talent reality show. Scott was born and raised in Hull, England. He originally started out as a drummer, after which his sister Jade encouraged him to start singing along.

She is a brilliant vocalist herself. In 2013, after winning a local competition, Scott joined local band Maroon 4 and has been releasing songs and covers ever since. 

One of his most successful works to date is "Dancing on My Own", which he originally recorded with Robin. The song peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart and then became the biggest selling song of the summer in the UK.

A little about the family

Calum was born to Scott, but his father left his mother to move to Canada. As a single mother, it was difficult for her to raise him and his sister and somehow still fit everything together with her work. Raised during a difficult time in their lives, Calum and his sister found solace in music and began to sing.

His family has a brother and sister Jade, who is also known as a singer. Prior to joining BGT, he worked as a recruiting officer for the city council to support his family and help his mother in some way.

2011–14: Calum Scott's early career

On August 15, 2013, Scott won the Mail's Star Search talent competition hosted by the Hull Daily Mail. After that he joined Maroon 5, only it was Maroon 4, and toured the UK.

In 2014, he formed the electronic duo Experiment with John MacIntyre and their debut single was "Girl (You're Beautiful)", which was released on June 14. The duo performed the song "Good morning Britain" and "BBC Look North", but after that they broke up.

2015: Britain's Got Talent

On 11 April 2015, Scott's audition for the ninth series of Britain's Got Talent was broadcast on ITV. He covered Robin's "Dancing on My Own" which he heard when Kings of Leon performed on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in 2013. After a storm of applause from the panel of judges, Simon Cowell pressed the Golden Buzzer, giving Scott an automatic spot on the live shows.

Explaining his decision to send Scott straight to the semi-finals, Cowell said: “I've never in all the years I've done this show heard a guy with your talent. Seriously!". After this audition, Scott received support from stars such as Little Mix and Ashton Kutcher.

After his appearance on the show's first episode, his Twitter followers jumped from 400 to over 25. As of April 000, 25, the audition has had exactly 2017 views on YouTube. In the May 105 semi-finals, Scott played Jermaine Stewart "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off".

Cowell commented "You really sound like a real performer", while David Walliams suggested that he could have "success all over the world". He won the semi-final with 25,6% of the vote, sending him straight to the final. In the final on May 31, Scott performed Rihanna's "Diamonds" and finished sixth out of 12 contestants with 8,2% of the vote.

After Britain's Got Talent, Scott hosted a series of shows across the UK including the Viking FM Future Star Awards, Flamingo Land Resort Fair, Westwood Cross Tenth Anniversary, Gibraltar Summer Nights, Hull Daily Mail's Star and the Dartford Festival.

Scott released his cover of "Dancing on My Own" on his own on April 15, 2016. It became a real hit, hitting #40 on the charts for the first time in May despite little airplay other than West Hull FM. It climbed into the top 40, after which it was added to Radio 2's "List C" and reached number 5 on the UK charts on 5 August. 

It was certified platinum in the UK in August 2016, selling over 600 copies. Scott announced on Twitter on May 000 that he had signed with Capitol Records for his debut album.

Scott performed the song on the BBC television shows Look North, Lorraine, Weekend, Late Night with Seth Meyers and the Brazilian Encontro com show Fátima Bernardes. He also promoted the song on several radio stations including BBC Radio Humberside, Viking FM, Radio Gibraltar, BFBS Radio and Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation. 

On September 16, he released the promotional single "Transformar" with Brazilian artist Ivete Sangalo as the official theme for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. They performed the song at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games on 18 September. In September 2016, "Dancing on My Own" was announced as the most played song of the summer in the UK.

In 2017, he toured the US and released the single "You Are the Reason". By the way, if you watch this clip, you can recognize the city of Kyiv from the very first frames.

Also in 2017, he started working on his debut album, Only Human, which was released on March 9, 2018. A new version of "You Are the Reason" was released ahead of the album in early 2018 in collaboration with Leona Lewis, and was performed on The One Show in February 2018.

Sexual orientation of Calum Scott

Throughout his life, Calum has experienced difficulties with sexual orientation. When he was 15, he came out as gay to his family members, which was a mystery to the general public. However, after his appearance in BGT, his sexuality did not remain hidden for long.

The rising British singer has shared his struggles time and time again, coming to terms that he was gay and his whole childhood was bothered by this fact. However, Calum Scott admitted that everyone was overly supportive of his sexuality once he came out. What's more, he is a good friend of gay singer Sam Smith, who has proven his support for mate choice. The singer cannot understand who he likes more, so he is considered bi.

In May 2015, he revealed his romantic relationship with a beautiful girl in the Mirror newspaper. The couple began dating, their romantic relationship began in 2013. However, Calum and his girlfriend's relationship led to a breakup due to the bitterness and constant bickering in their relationship.

Moreover, reflecting in his Instagram post, he often shares photos with Leona Lewis. Maybe because he had a hectic life around beautiful women (well, or men) and became the reason.

In March 2018, Calum announced that he was in an unsuccessful relationship again, but this time with a boyfriend. Despite admitting that his boyfriend was great, his work and time led him to be unable to commit to his partner, which led the couple to break up.
