In the summer of 2000, the debut recording of 19-year-old Craig David Born to Do It immediately made him a celebrity in his native Britain. The collection of R&B dance songs has earned critical acclaim and has reached platinum several times.
The first single of the record, Fill Me In, made David the youngest British singer to top the charts in his country. Journalists enthusiastically wrote about the talented boy, admiring his stylish voice and ability to write songs.
"David has a truly remarkable vocal style, displaying a luxurious tone and flexibility rarely seen in British pop music," said music critic Neil McCor-Meek of the London-based Telegraph newspaper.
Shortly after the album Born to Do It was released in the United States, the record entered the top 20 of the charts.
Childhood Craig David
Craig David was born on May 5, 1981 in Southampton, England. The young singer is a product of the British multicultural society, born to a white Anglo-Jewish mother and an Afro-Grenadian father in 1981.
David's parents separated when he was 8 years old, and the boy was raised by his mother. He attended Bellemoor School and Southampton City College.
David and his mother lived in a relatively poor area of the port city of Southampton, his mother worked as a salesman, and David grew up listening to records of American stars such as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
He knew little about his father's career as a reggae musician with the Ebony Rockers, but when he became interested in making music himself, his father gave him some guitar lessons and tried to get his son into classical music.
“I liked the guitar, but I didn't feel those classic songs. I just wanted to sing,” David later said in an interview with Entertainment Robbunner weekly.
The beginning of Craig David's career
Seeing his son's interest in music, his father began to take David with him to concerts in nightclubs, where the teenager Craig accompanied his father. At one of the performances, David picked up a microphone and since then he has hardly parted with him.
Nicknamed CD for his love of music, he worked as a disc jockey in Southampton, a pirate radio show host, a McDonald's cashier, a plastic window salesman, and quietly wrote his own songs.
Entering a national singing competition at the age of 15, he won first prize with I'm Ready, the first victory of his singing career.

In 1997, David met musician Mark Hill from the band Artful Dodger. The band was well known as a "garage" sound.
David worked with Hill in the studio and appeared as a guest vocalist on the band's Artful Dodger track Re-Rewind in late 1999. The song reached number 2 in the UK charts and was the start of Craig's solo career.
David and Hill co-wrote the song What Ya Gonna Do?, which unexpectedly became a hit. The success led David to a contract with Wildstar Records to record his own songs.
Produced by his friend Hill, David's Born to Do It hit UK record stores in early 2000.
His soulful R&B songs like Last Night and Follow Me appealed to fans, and the first single, Fill Me In, reached the top of the charts in April.
The work received positive reviews from the music press and was enthusiastically received by the public. David Craig has become wildly popular in England.
His next three singles hit the top 10, and his first album, Born To Do It, went on to sell over 7 million albums worldwide.
International success
The album's success led to a US release, where Fill Me In peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album peaked at number 11 and 7 Days reached the top 10.
Craig's second album Slicker Than Your Average was released in 2002. It proved to be less successful than its predecessor.
Craig David collaborated with Sting on Rise and Fall. The track peaked at number 2 on the UK Billboard charts but failed to chart on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
In 2005, Craig David released his third album on Warner Music. However, the album was never released in the US. Label Atlantic Records considered this disc not commercially viable enough.
All the Way was the first single from the album and peaked at number 3 in the UK. But Don't Love You No More More (I'm Sorry) spent 15 weeks in the top 75.
In 2007, Craig worked with Kano on the track This is the Girl, which peaked at number 18 on the singles chart.
Later that year, Craig released the first single from his new album, Trust Me. Hot Stuff reached the top 10 and the album peaked at number 18.
"6 of 1 Thing" - the second release of the album turned out to be Craig's cheapest single. He took only 39th position.
In 2010, the singer released his fifth album, which was called Signed Sealed Delivered. After 6 years, the next album, Following My Intuition, was released.
In 2008, a collection of the singer's popular hits was released.
In 2017, there was a new world "breakthrough" in his work. Craig released the single Walking Away, which topped many of the world's charts.
Between 2000 and 2001 the performer has been awarded music awards in the field of popular music. Received two MTV Europe Music Awards in 2001.
