Debbie Gibson (Debbie Gibson): Biography of the singer

Debbie Gibson is the pseudonym of an American singer who became a real idol for children and teenagers in the United States in the late 1980s - early 1990s of the last century. This is the first girl who was able to take the 1st position in the largest American music chart Billboard Hot 100 at a very young age (at that time the girl was only 17 years old).

The singer gained fame very early and quickly, but she lost it just as quickly. Today, the performer is remembered only for a few hits of that time.

The childhood of the singer Debbie Gibson

On August 31, 1970, Deborah Gibson (real name of the singer) was born. Her creative inclinations appeared very early. In particular, the girl liked acting, and she decided to choose this particular type of activity.

Her parents sent her and her sisters to a small local theater (the family lived in Brooklyn, New York) when the girl was only 5 years old. It is interesting that at the same time she began to show a love for music. Around the same age, Debbie wrote her own full song.

Make Sure You Know Your Classroom is Gibson's first official composition. Parents realized that the girl had every chance of becoming a musician, so they sent her to vocal classes.

Young Debbie's infatuation

Thanks to the classes, Debbie began to sing in the children's choir, developing her vocal skills. But she didn't stop there. In parallel, the little singer was very interested in learning to play musical instruments.

Like many, she began to learn to play the piano. But in addition, I chose a very exotic Hawaiian stringed instrument - the ukulele. It is also interesting that among her teachers there were very famous American musicians who tried to pass on at least part of their skills and knowledge to the young talent.

Later, the girl often recalled this time and said that in their house all the children (Debbie had several sisters) could not share the tools among themselves. All girls grew up very creative. Therefore, education has always been associated with music and creativity in general.

Debbie Gibson Music Career

Since the mid-1980s, the girl already knew for sure that she wanted to make music. She made several demos (recorded developments of the song, which testify not to quality, but to stylistic features, vocal data of the performer) and handed them out to everyone around her.

If she met the producers, she gave them her record. In the end, such perseverance was rewarded. Already at the age of 16, her dream began to come true little by little. In 1986, her recording got into the management of the famous label Atlantic Records - a real "hotbed" of world stars of that time. The label has been actively working on a new artist. The girl immediately began recording her debut disc Out of the Blue.

The label gave her small gigs in various clubs even before she became famous. In the process of performances, the girl wrote new songs, which later became part of the album. A significant interest in recognition has grown into a very high productivity. The debut album was recorded in record time. A month after the work began, the girl had a finished album in her hands.

The growing popularity of the performer

The CD was released in 1987 by Atlantic Records. It was a sensation. It took the title songs just a few days to conquer all the existing charts in the US, UK, Australia and other European countries. Here the girl quickly became popular, occupying the tops of all kinds of tops.

Four songs hit the Billboard Hot 100 at once. And then there was a new triumph - Foolish Beat (the main single from the album), which took the 1st position of the chart. Debbie set a record - she is 17 years old, and she is already at the top of the Billboard top. Nobody had been able to do this before. All four songs made the top 20. By the way, this record was broken only after 25 years.

The girl conquered not only the countries of Europe. Asia bought up significant copies of the new album. There was also a wave of popularity in Japan. The release was sold in millions of copies, and in 1988 the girl's popularity skyrocketed.

The perfect indication of this was that it was Gibson who was invited to sing the anthem at a Major League Baseball game. Given the responsibility and attention with which the Americans approach this tournament, this can be considered a real “breakthrough”.

The artist wrote the second disc much longer than the first. This was due to the sudden workload and busy schedule. Disc Electric Youth was released in the spring of 1989 and immediately after the release hit the top 200 best albums (according to Billboard). For more than a month, he topped this chart. Singles from the album were held in various charts throughout 1989.

Another achievement awaited the singer - the famous Billboard was conquered from two sides at once. On the 1st position in the top 200 best albums was the Gibson disc. And in the chart of the top 100 best tracks, her songs were in the lead. The girl received many awards - not only as a singer, but also as a talented author, as she took an active part in writing her songs. The success of the second album was a little weaker than the debut, but it was still a great result.

Later years Debbie Gibson

Since 1990, the mass hysteria around Debbie began to quickly disappear. The girl continued her work with the label Atlantic Records. Within two years, she released two more discs, but their popularity was much less (when compared with debut records). The next release was in 1995. The album Think With Your Heart turned out to be very good and was warmly received by critics. However, no new listeners were added.

Until 2003, Gibson released three more albums. There was no need to talk about past success - at that time, the music industry was experiencing an influx of new famous names. Nevertheless, among the "fans" her work was very popular.

The last release was released in 2010 and was dedicated to the anniversary of the singer. Album Ms. Vocalist showed good sales in Japan, but went unnoticed in Europe and the US.
