History of Gogol Bordello

At the origins of the team is the talented Yevgeny Gudz. From adolescence, he was interested in the sound of heavy music. He was brought up in a creative family, in which any musical manifestations were welcomed.

A few years before Eugene came to America, he wandered around European countries. The musician to the "holes" erased the records Johnny Cash, Nika Caiva и Leonard Cohen. Hudz caught himself thinking that he wanted to “put together” his own project, but he had no idea where to start.

In 92, Eugene settled in Vermont. In this city, he began to experiment with sound and music in general. Especially "tasty" in his performance sounded tracks in the style of punk rock. After some time, he still founded the group. The brainchild of the artist was called The Fags.

This project was an absolute failure for Gudz. He had nothing to lose, so the musician then headed for colorful New York. He managed to join the composition of the musical "cream". For some time he stood at the conductor's stand in the Pizdets nightclub. In this club, Evgeny was lucky to meet talented musicians Yura Lemeshev, Sergey Ryabtsev, Oren Kaplan and Eliot Ferguson.

The guys caught themselves on the general musical tastes. They then teamed up with the dance group Pam Racine and Elizabeth Sun. The show project was named Hutz and the Bela Bartoks. The team started the first rehearsals.

The public did not appreciate the first performances of the band. Often their performances succumbed to harsh criticism. Eugene himself was angry, because he was getting high from everything that his guys did on stage. Anger grew into a desire to prove that their music is worth something. During this time they performed as Gogol Bordello.

Composition of the collectiвand "Gogol Bordello"

The first professional performances of the group took place at the Pizdets and Zarya venues. Interestingly, during this period of time, the “pioneers” began to leave the group one by one. The tight schedule and the lack of large fees did not motivate the development of the project. Today (2021) the composition of the team looks like this:

  • Evgeny Gudz;
  • Michael Ward;
  • Thomas "Tommy T" Gobina;
  • Sergei Ryabtsev;
  • Pavel Nevmerzhitsky;
  • Pedro Erazo;
  • Elizabeth Chi-Wei Song;
  • Oliver Charles;
  • Boris Pelekh.

The creative path of Gogol Bordello

From the moment the band was founded, the musicians managed to create a "signature" sound. Of course, over time, the tracks have undergone minor genre changes, but in general, the rock band's songs have an individual sound.

Almost immediately after things in the group "settled down" - the guys started recording their debut album. Soon fans were enjoying the sound of the Voi-la Intruder compilation.

The album appeared on store shelves at the end of the 90s. In just a couple of weeks, the record was sold out by "fans" and just lovers of decent music. In support of the LP, the guys held a number of concerts.

Around this period of time, the musicians appeared on the same stage with Manu Chao. They put on a great show. After that, the number of fans of the team increased significantly.

Presentation of the record Multi Kontra Culti vs. irony

The musicians said that they are preparing material for recording their second studio album. The release of the LP was delayed because the artists toured a lot. In 2002, on the Rubric label, the band recorded the compilation Multi Kontra Culti vs. irony. Then there was a silence that lasted 3 years. It was interrupted by the presentation of the third studio album.

In a short period of time, the musicians managed to become stars of the American punk rock scene. They tried to keep up the pace, releasing new musical material, charged with the same incredible energy.

From that moment on, getting to the concert of a rock band has become a whole task. Tickets for the performances of the guys were sold out at the speed of the wind. The guys continued to release new tracks and videos. Soon the group's discography became richer by one more LP. The collection was called Super Taranta!. Rolling Stone - marked this album with the highest praise. The presented disc also brought the guys the BBC World Music Awards.

In 2010, the musicians will present the collection Trans-Continental Hustle. This was followed by the release of the disc "My Gypsyada". By the way, the latest collection includes tracks recorded in Russian. This was followed by the premiere of Pura Vida Conspiracy Seekers and Finders.
