In 2006, a casting call was announced for participation in the large-scale Australian Idol competition. This is where the young girl applied. With the song Whitney Houston, the young girl managed to impress the judges, and she got into the project.
The media tried to prevent the girl from participating in events - they referred to the fact that Jessica already has a contract with Sony Music, which she signed at the age of 14 in Sydney.
However, it turned out that the contract had expired long ago, and the performer got into the project. For a long time, Jessica remained in the lead of the project, but there were also scandalous situations.
At the end of one of the competition weeks, one of the judges of the Kyle Sandilands project spoke unflatteringly about the figure and excess weight of the performer and advised her to lose weight if she wants to achieve serious results on stage.
Of course, in further interviews, the performer stated that she was shocked by such statements, but reacted to them with humor.
During the project, Jessica suffered from a sore throat, which prevented her from performing well in one of the competition weeks.
Nevertheless, she remained in the project, and even reached the final along with the performer Damien Leith. Leith won the contest, and Jessica Mauboy took 2nd place in terms of the number of votes.
Career of Jessica Mauboy
Almost immediately after the end of the Australian Idol TV show, the girl signed a contract with the same record company Sony Music. In parallel, she began acting in commercials, her face was recognizable.
Her debut live album, The Journey, was released very soon. This album consisted of two parts, the first part was recorded in good quality cover versions of songs performed on the show, and the second part was live performances from the Australian Idol show.
Already in 2007, the girl joined the girl group Young Divas, replacing one of the participants who went on a solo "swimming". A few weeks later, the band even released an album with Jessica.
A few months later, the girl began working closely with Indonesian musical projects, and even went to the country to participate in a competition that was similar to the Australian Idol TV show.
Here she performed several songs with former project participants, and also performed at various large-scale concert venues.
Returning to her native country, Mauboy went headlong into recording her solo studio album. At the same moment, the girl decided to leave the group in order to devote more time to her own creativity and development.
