Kelly Rowland (Kelly Rowland): Biography of the singer

Kelly Rowland rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a member of the trio Destiny's Child, one of the most colorful girl groups of her time.

However, even after the collapse of the trio, Kelly continued to engage in musical creativity, and at the moment she has already released four full-length solo albums.

Childhood and performances as part of the Girl's Tyme group

Kelly Rowland was born on February 11, 1981 in Atlanta, USA. She is the daughter of Doris Rowland and Christopher Lovett (Vietnam War veteran). Moreover, she became the second child in the family (she has an older brother, Orlando).

When the girl was 6 years old, her mother decided to divorce her father, who by that time had become heavily abusing alcohol. Little Kelly, of course, stayed with her mother.

In 1992, Kelly Rowland, along with another future star Beyoncé, joined the children's musical group Girl's Tyme. Soon this creative team (which at that time included six participants) attracted the attention of producer Arne Frager.

Frager ended up getting Girl's Tyme on the top-rated television program Star Search.

But this performance did not become a "breakthrough". As Beyonce later explained, the reason for the failure was that the group chose the wrong song to perform on this program.

In 1993, the group was reduced to four members (Kelly and Beyoncé, of course, were in the lineup), and its name was changed to Destiny's Child.

The group had the opportunity to act "as an opening act" for the famous R&B artists of the time, and in 1997 this group signed a contract with a major Columbia Records studio and recorded an album.

In the same 1997, one of the songs from this album was included in the soundtrack for the blockbuster Men in Black.

Until 2002, Kelly Rowland's career revolved around Destiny's Child. During this time, the group, firstly, transformed from a quartet into a trio (Michelle Williams joined Beyoncé and Kelly), and secondly, released three incredibly successful albums: Destiny's Child (1998), The Writing's On The Wall (1999 d.), Survivor (2001).

However, on all these records, the singer was still on the sidelines, as the status of the main star was assigned to Beyoncé.

In 2002, the group announced a temporary breakup, and this allowed Kelly Rowland to focus on solo work. First of all, Rowland participated in the recording of the song by American rapper Nelly Dilemma.

The song became a hit and was even awarded a Grammy. And on October 22, 2002, the singer presented her solo album Simply Deep. In the first week, 77 thousand copies of this album were sold, which can be called a good result.

In August 2003, the singer tried her hand at a big movie, playing a minor role of Kiandra Waterson in the slasher film Freddy vs. Jason.

Interestingly, her shooting partner was the famous actor Robert Englund. The film ended up doing well at the box office, earning $114 million worldwide.

In 2004, Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé and Michelle Williams got back together and recorded another (final) studio album, Destiny Fulfilled, which was released in November 2004.

The legendary R&B trio finally ceased to exist in 2006.

Further work Kelly Rowland

On June 20, 2007, Kelly Rowland released her second full solo album, Ms. Kelly. In the authoritative American Billboard 200 hit parade, the album debuted immediately at the 6th position, and was generally quite successful (although Simply Deep still failed to reach the commercial performance).

In the fall of 2007, Rowland appeared as a mentor choirmaster on the NBC reality show Clash of the Choirs. And as a result, the Rowland choir took 5th place here.

And in 2011, she was a judge on the British television project The X Factor (season 8) (a show aimed at finding new musical talents).

On July 22, 2011 Kelly's third studio album Here I Am was released. Moreover, its standard edition, distributed in the USA, contained 10 tracks, and the international one was supplemented with 7 more bonus tracks.

In 2012, Rowland also played a small role in the comedy film Think Like a Man (according to the plot, her character's name is Brenda).

In 2013, the singer's fourth audio album, Talk a Good Game, went on sale. In an interview, Rowland said that she considers this LP the most personal of all. Kelly personally worked on almost all the lyrics of the songs on this album.

But Rowland's musical career didn't end there. In May 2019, her mini-album (EP) The Kelly Rowland Edition was released digitally. And in November 2019, the singer published a touching Christmas song Love You Moreat Christmas Time.

Personal life of the singer

In 2011, Kelly Rowland dated her manager Tim Witherspoon. On December 16, 2013, they announced their engagement, and on May 9, 2014 they got married (the wedding ceremony took place in Costa Rica).

A few months later, on November 4, 2014, Kelly gave birth to a son from Tim, who was named Titan.
