Kukryniksy is a rock band from Russia. Echoes of punk rock, folk and classic rock tunes can be found in the group's compositions. In terms of popularity, the group is in the same position as such cult groups as Sektor Gaza and Korol i Shut.
But do not compare the team with the rest. "Kukryniksy" are original and individual. It is interesting that initially the musicians did not plan to turn their project into something worthwhile.
It all started with the fact that young people were doing what they enjoyed.
The history of the creation of the Kukryniksy group
Initially, the rock band "Kukryniksy" positioned itself as an amateur group. The guys rehearsed for the soul. Occasionally, the musicians performed at the local house of culture and at various events in their native city.
The name "Kukryniksy" is a bit ridiculous, it also arose spontaneously and does not have any deep meaning.
The soloists borrowed the word "kukryniksy" from another creative group - a trio of cartoonists (Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiry Krylov and Nikolai Sokolov). The trio has long worked under this creative pseudonym.
The musicians took the name for a while. Despite this, they have been performing under it for two decades. Considering that the guys were not going to professionally engage in music, then this is a completely logical explanation.
In 1997, a team of talented musicians was noticed by representatives of the popular label Manchester Files. They, in fact, offered the Kukryniksy group to record compositions.
May 28, 1997 is the official date of the creation of the Kukryniksy team. Although the guys started their creative activity a little earlier.
Prior to the creation of the group, the team often appeared at the performances of the Korol i Shut team, whose leader was Alexei Gorshenyov's brother, Mikhail. Starting from May 28, a completely new page of independent creativity has opened for the team.
The composition of the musical group
The composition of the Kukryniksy group was constantly changing. The only one who remained faithful to the team was Alexei Gorshenyov. Alexey is the brother of the legendary soloist of the King and the Jester group (Gorshka, who, unfortunately, is no longer alive).
The frontman of the rock band is from Birobidzhan. Alexey was born on October 3, 1975. Music began to take a great interest since the childhood.
In his interviews, the man says that he has always been obsessed with the desire to write songs. Therefore, it is not surprising that Gorshenyov decided to connect his life with creativity.
At the origins of the team was another person - Maxim Voitov. A little later, Alexander Leontiev (guitar and backing vocals) and Dmitry Gusev joined the group. In this composition, the Kukryniksy group recorded their debut album.
A little later, Ilya Levakov, Viktor Batrakov and other musicians joined the band.
Over time, the band's sound became brighter, richer and more professional due not only to the presence of professional musicians in the group, but also to the experience gained.
Today, the rock band is associated with Alexei Gorshenyov, as well as with Igor Voronov (guitarist), Mikhail Fomin (drummer) and Dmitry Oganyan (backing vocalist and bass player).
Music and the creative path of the Kukryniksy group
In 1998, the musicians replenished their discography with their debut album, which was called "Kukryniksy".
Despite the fact that the new group did not yet have enough experience in recording compositions, music critics and music lovers favorably accepted the novelty.
The top songs of the album include the songs "It's not a problem" and "Soldier's sadness". After the presentation of the collection, the musicians went on their first "serious" tour.
In the early 2000s, the musicians took part in the KINOproby project. At the origins of the project were the soloists of the rock band "Kino". The project is dedicated to the memory of the legendary singer Viktor Tsoi.
The group "Kukryniksy" performed the songs "Summer will end soon" and "Sorrow". The musicians managed to "pepper" the compositions with individuality, giving them color.
In 2002, the musicians presented their second studio album, The Painted Soul. The main hit of the album was the musical composition "According to the Painted Soul".
Almost immediately after the release of the second album, the musicians began work on the third collection. Soon, music lovers could enjoy the contents of the Clash disc. The collection was officially released in 2004.
Fans especially appreciated the songs: "Black Bride", "Silver September", "Movement". But that was not all. In the same 2004, the musicians presented the album "Favorite of the Sun".
The following year, the musicians presented the song "Star", which was originally intended for the film "9th Company" directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk.
However, the track never sounded in the film, but it was included in the collection "Shaman", and the frames of the film "9th Company" served as a video clip for the track.
In 2007, the discography of the rock band was replenished with a new album, which was called "XXX". The most striking compositions of the album, according to fans, are the songs: "Nobody", "My New World", "Fall".
Recording a compilation with other artists
In 2010, the soloists of the Kukryniksy group took part in the recording of the collection Salt is Our Musical Traditions. The disc includes compositions by the Chaif and Night Snipers groups, Yulia Chicherina, Alexander F. Sklyar, as well as the Piknik collective.
Despite the fact that during this period of time the musicians regularly released albums and took part in the recording of collections, the group toured extensively. In addition, the Kukryniksy group was a frequent guest at music festivals.
Every year the fans of the rock band became more and more. It is rare that a band's performance took place with empty seats in the hall.
In addition, Alexey Gorshenyov worked on a solo project, which was dedicated to the memory and work of Sergei Yesenin.
An unexpected statement about the end of the group's work
The rise of the Kukryniksy team could be envied by every beginning group. Recordings of albums, video clips, loaded tour schedules, recognition and respect of music critics.
Nothing foreshadowed the fact that in 2017 Alexey Gorshenyov would announce that the group would cease to exist.
Kukryniksy group now
In 2018, the Kukryniksy group celebrated its 20th anniversary. In honor of this event, the musicians went on a big tour, which lasted more than a year.
The team tried to cover all the cities of Russia, since in every corner of their native country the work of the group is honored and loved.
Alexei did not disclose the reasons for the breakup of the group. However, he subtly hinted that he is currently focusing on his solo career.
The last performance of the Kukryniksy group took place on August 3, 2018 at the Invasion rock festival.
At the beginning of 2019, it became known that Alexey had launched a new project, which was called Gorshenev. Under this creative pseudonym, the singer has already managed to release an album.
