The history of the creation and composition of the Lacuna Coil group

The history of the Lacuna Coil group began in 1994 in Milan. Previously, the team performed under the creative pseudonyms Sleep of Right and Ethereal. Fans who want to get acquainted with the early work of the group can listen to the songs under these names.

The composition of the group was constantly changing. However, there is a trio that has always remained true to its offspring. The list of permanent participants was headed by:

  • vocalist Christina Scabbia;
  • vocalist Andrea Ferro;
  • bassist Marco Coti Zelati.

After forming the line-up, the guys recorded several demos. The musicians sent their debut tracks to various recording studios. In 1996, the band signed a contract with Century Media Records.

Presentation of the debut mini-LP

Soon the guys started working on a studio mini-album, produced by Waldemar Sorichta. After the release of the record, the group was called gothic Bon Jovi with female vocals. The members of Lacuna Coil have described their repertoire as "dark dreamy".

Before the release of the full-length compilation, the Italian band went on a joint tour with the alternative band Moonspell. Leonardo Forti, Rafael Zagaria, Claudio Leo played only a few concerts with the rest of the participants. Then they announced that they want to leave the team.

Lacuna Coil opened a new page in their creative biography after participating in the popular German Wacken festival at the end of 1998. This event happened almost at the peak of the recording of the debut album In a Reverie. Kristina, who was actually left without a band, was helped by musicians from other bands. In this way, they showed respect and interest in what she does.

After guitarist Marco Biazzi joined the band, the band's tracks gained even more drive and power. The new guitarist and the rest of the band went on a European tour, taking Skyclad with them.

At the same time, Lacuna Coil took part in the show Into the Darkness in parallel with Gripinc, Samael and My Insanity. A little later, the guys performed several tracks on the Gods of Metal project. The guest stars of the show then became the legendary band Metallica.

Music by Lacuna Coil

In the early 2000s, Lacuna Coil presented a new EP to fans of their work. The collection was called Halflife. The EP included a cover version of the track, which belonged to the Dubstar team. The group was in the spotlight. A significant number of European concerts, where the musicians acted as headliners, were secured.

After the presentation of the EP, the musicians went on a large-scale tour of North America. Lacuna Coil performed on the same stage with the famous Killswitch, Engage In Flames and Sentenced.

The first performance of Lacuna Coil took place at one of the venues in San Francisco on September 16th. Since the band had a deadline for the release of the second album Comalies, the musicians refused to perform. Still, work on a new album was a priority.

Gothic in the music of Lacuna Coil

In 2002, the group's discography was officially expanded with a second studio album. Before the release of the record, the musicians pleased the fans with the release of the new track Heaven's A Lie. The song "hinted" to "fans" and competitors that Lacuna Coil are the brightest stars of the gothic music genre.

According to the old tradition, the presentation of the new album was accompanied by a North American tour, with the program Absent Friends Tour. Together with the group, their stage colleagues appeared on stage - the bands Tapping the Vein, Opeth and Paradise Lost. Soon there was information that most of the concerts would be cancelled. All the fault - problems with the visa center.

The video clip for the track Heaven's A Lie was broadcast on almost every German TV channel. This position allowed the group Lacuna Coil to lead the prestigious European charts. In the spring of 2004, the team went on an extended tour of their native Italy.

When the guys returned to North America, they were pleasantly surprised by the fact that the number of sales of the Comalies album exceeded 100 copies. Inspired musicians began a large-scale tour of the United States of America. But it was not all good news from the team. The group presented a new track Swamped, which was included in the soundtrack to the fantastic movie "Resident Evil: Apocalypse".

Then it became known that (according to Century Media Records) the band's second album became the best-selling album on the Italian rock scene. The compilation peaked at number 194 on the Billboard chart.

Presentation of the Karmacod album

In 2006, the musicians presented a new album Karmacode. The composition Our Truth from the new disc was first released as a single. And later was as a soundtrack to the movie "Underworld: Evolution". Soon the video was played for days on MTV.

At the same time, the band's video sequence was replenished with several more clips. The musicians presented video clips for the tracks: Within Me, Our Truth, Closer and Enjoy the Silence.

The debut DVD with a live concert and a photo gallery by Lacuna Coil was called Visual Karma (Body, Mind and Soul). Its presentation took place in 2008. Fans were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the materials.

During an interview with Rock Sound, Cristina Scabbia revealed that Don Gilmour would be producing the fifth album. The vocalist promised that the new disc will delight fans with an updated sound.

The influence of Arabic music on the work of the Lakuna Koil group

The new work of the band Lacuna Coil is influenced by Arabic music. The presentation of Shallow Life took place in 2009. Initially, the musicians presented the record to European fans. And the very next day, American "fans" learned about the release of the fifth album.

In 2011, it became known that the debut track of the sixth compilation would be titled Trip the Darkness. A few years later, the band's discography was replenished with the disc Dark Adrenaline. The top track of the new album was the track Kill the Light.

In 2013, Lacuna Coil announced to the "fans" that they had begun recording new work. It was produced by Bomgardner. Broken Crown Halo is the band's seventh studio album, hitting stores on April 1, 2013.

On Valentine's Day, the band announced the departure of Mozzati and guitarist Migliore. This statement was hard for fans to accept, since the musicians were part of the Lacuna Coil group for 16 years. The reason for leaving was personal reasons. In the same year, a new member, musician Ryan Folden, joined the team.

Three years later, the band pleased music lovers with the release of the next album. The record was recorded in a small Milan recording studio. But even more interesting is the fact that it was produced by the band's musician Mark Dzelat.

The new work was called Delirium. A few months before the presentation of the album, Marco Biazzi left the band. The rest of the band had no choice but to invite session musicians.

The Lacuna Coil team today

After the presentation of the eighth studio album there was a creative break. In 2017-2018 musicians toured the world. At the end of 2018, it became known that the guys were preparing their ninth album.

Black Anima's ninth studio album was released on October 11, 2019. The compilation was released on Century Media Records. This is the first record with drummer Richard Maze, who also joined the band Genus Ordinis Dei.

Black Anima has become a real breath of fresh air for fans. The musicians opened a new page in the band's creative biography.

In support of the studio album, the musicians went on tour. However, the Lacuna Coil group failed to complete it completely. In 2020, a number of concerts had to be canceled and some rescheduled.
