The history of the group began when Charles moved from Carolina to Nashville and called a friend Heywood. The guys started writing music. Soon, while visiting one of the local clubs, they met Hillary. Then they invited her to join the team.

Soon they began to perform, taking the name Lady Antebellum. Part of the name meant the architectural style in which the houses of the colonial period were built.

A good start or a path to success Lady Antebellum

For the guys, dedicating their lives to music was not a spontaneous decision. Hillary was the daughter of legendary country singer Lindy Davis, and Charles was the brother of singer Josh Kelly. At first, the team performed in their hometown. And then Jim Brickman sent an invitation, with whom the group recorded the single Never Alone.

The popularity of the group instantly increased. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard charts. A year later, in the same chart, the band took 3rd position with the solo single Love Don't Live Here. It was for this composition that the first video clip was filmed. It became the first song on Lady Antbellum's album to go platinum within a year.

In 2009, two songs at once took the leading positions in the charts - Lookin' for a Good Time (11th position) and I Run To You (1st position). By the end of the year, a solo record and the single Need You Know (the title track of the new album) were released.

The success of the new composition was dizzying - starting from the 50th position, in a short time it took the 1st position. In the overall Billboard chart, she firmly and for a long time took 2nd position.

In early 2010, another hit by American Honey musicians was released. And again, a quick take-off to the 1st position. Thanks to the compositions, the musical group received prestigious awards, took a leading position in the charts.

Lady Antbellum Awards

The Lady Antebellum trio have received prestigious awards on numerous occasions. The musicians have been awarded four Grammy awards. Their hits received the titles: "Best Country Song of the Year", "Best Vocal-Instrumental Performance", "Best Record of the Year".

The success inspired determination to record the album Own the Night, which was released in autumn 2011. Work on it lasted four months. And the first song was Just a Kiss. The disc sold 400 thousand copies, the album was again awarded the Grammy Award in the Best Country Album nomination.

The next album was released only in 2012. Contrary to the expectations of the band members, he did not cause a “noise” around him, despite several awards from the AMA and ACA associations. Members of the musical group perceived this as a "failure".

A New Beginning

In 2015, Lady Antebellum ceased to exist. Hillary Scott and Kelly tried to start a solo career. But none of them could succeed by working separately. This became an important argument for uniting the guys.

Even before the end of 2015, the team members united again. At first, work on new compositions took place in Florida, and then was moved to Los Angeles.

The trio worked for 4 months, practically without leaving the recording studio. The guys decided to make up for lost time and restore the former glory of the team. They soon embarked on the You Look Good World Tour.

New name

Not so long ago, the musical group decided to change the name from the usual Lady Antebellum to Lady A. The reason for this decision was the events that took place in the United States, when George Floyd was killed.

The drastic changes might not have had to be made if the group's name hadn't been seen as a message to anti-racism supporters during a period when slavery flourished. The fact is that Antbellum meant not only an architectural style, but also a period.

But even so, it was not possible to avoid the discontent of some people. It turned out that the little-known dark-skinned blues singer Anita White performed under the pseudonym Lady A.

She accused the band of violating her copyright. In her opinion, the name belongs to the one who first took it. Lawyers are now dealing with this problem.

White in her songs often touched on the topic of racial discrimination. Also does not believe that the members of the group are not racists. She believes that they are insincere in their statements. If the journalists found the singer's pseudonym on Spotify, then it was not difficult for the guys from the group either.

Despite such incidents, the Lady Antebellum team continues its creative path and does everything to reach the former heights and return to its former glory.
