Childhood and youth of Maria Burmaki

Ukrainian singer Maria Viktorovna Burmaka was born on June 16, 1970 in the city of Kharkov. Maria's parents worked as teachers. From early childhood, Maria loved to recite poetry and perform musical compositions.

People often sang folk songs and read Ukrainian books in the family's house. The Burmak family respected and loved Ukrainian culture. The singer remembers how dad and mom, dressed in embroidered shirts, took Maria to the first call.

Maria studied at school number 4, along Lomonosov Street in Kharkov. She studied well at school, if not for her behavior, she could have graduated from school with a silver medal.

Maria was often late for classes or skipped classes. She was the initiator of the disruptions of the lessons and doubted the knowledge of the teachers. And she was not afraid to criticize teachers in front of the class.

Burmaka attended the school choir. In addition, the girl attended a music school, where she mastered playing the piano. Actually, this began a closer acquaintance of Mary with music.

After the final exams, Maria decided to get a higher education. She became a student at the prestigious Kharkov University named after Karazin.

The creative path of Maria Burmaka

While studying at the Faculty of Philology at the Karazin University, Maria Burmaka began to write and perform her own musical compositions. She took part in the festival "Amulet" and "Chervona Ruta". For her excellent performance, the girl was awarded two honorary awards.

Actually, the singer's musical career began with a performance at the festival. Soon she recorded an audio cassette "Maria Burmaka". The work was warmly received by fans and music critics.

In the fall, the first Ukrainian CD "Maria" was released, which was recorded at the Canadian recording studio "Khoral".

The new album sounded in the new age style (the music has a low tempo, the use of light melodies). The genre of music combines electronic and ethnic melodies. It began to be performed in the United States of America in the 1960s.

In the same year, Maria moved to the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv, to continue her musical work. Here she met Nikolai Pavlov, a composer and arranger. In the future, Maria collaborated with the composer, replenishing the repertoire with new compositions.

Maria Burmaka on TV

In the 1990s, she combined her music career with television work. The singer hosted programs on the STB, 1 + 1, UT-1 TV channels. Maria worked as the host of the programs: "Breakfast Music", "Create Yourself", "Teapot", "Who's There", "Rating".

Since 1995, Maria Burmaka has been engaged in journalism and created her own program "CIN" (culture, information, news). As a result, it became the best project of Ukrainian television.

In 1998, the concert of the singer "Again I love" was held at the National Art Museum of Ukraine. The invited guests have never heard such a concert. The presentation was special. The performance began with an acoustic chamber concert, and then Maria presented songs to the sound of a guitar. None of the Ukrainian performers have dared to make such an experiment.

In 2000, Maria created her own group. The producer of the group was bass player Yuri Pilip. With his arrival in the group, Maria changed the style of her tracks. The album "MIA" was recorded at the studio of Alexander Ponamorev "From early to night" in 2001.

The new compilation was recorded in a soft rock style, which (unlike pop rock) had a more pleasant soft sound. In the same year, before Christmas, Maria Burmaka released the New Year's album "Iz yangolom na shul'chi". Old songs and Ukrainian carols were included in the disc.

In November 2002, the singer gave a concert in Kyiv called "MIA". The performance included songs from past years and compositions from the album released in 2001.

Since 2003, Maria Burmaka began with a tour of the cities of Ukraine. The singer's concerts were held on a significant scale. She then took up writing the remix version of "Number 9" (2004). 

Album "Mi dememo! The best” (2004) is the creative result of the singer for 15 years of work in the music field. The record includes the best tracks and video clips of the singer from 10 records.

Maria performed with charity concerts, at festivals in America and Poland with Ukrainian songs. In 2007, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, Maria Burmaka was awarded the Order of Princess Olga of the III degree.

The singer released a new album "All the albums of Maria Burmaka". In support of the collection, the singer went on a tour of the cities of Ukraine.

The new album "Soundtracks" (2008) includes the songs: "Probach", "Not to that", "Say goodbye not zumili". Then she was invited to be a member of the jury for the BBC Book of the Year Literary Award.

In 2009, Maria received the title of "People's Artist of Ukraine". She hosted programs on the 1 + 1 channel: Breakfast Music and Music for Adults with Maria Burmaka on the TVi channel in 2011.

In 2014, the singer released a new album "Tin po vod". New songs performed by Maria Burmaka "Dance", "Golden Autumn", "Frisbee" were released in 2015. The presented compositions were included by the fans in the list of the best tracks of the singer's repertoire. In 2016, the artist presented the song "Yakbi mi".

Maria Burmaka: personal life

Maria Burmaka met her husband, producer Dmitry Nebisiychuk, at a festival in which she participated. Their acquaintance turned into deep feelings for each other.

Maria Burmaka and Dmitry Nebisiychuk signed in 1993. As the singer says: "I married all the Carpathians." The husband had a zealous and quick-tempered, stormy, unpredictable character, like the nature of the Carpathians.

Maria wanted to develop her musical career and have a strong family. At first it was like that. The singer worked on the creation of her albums, at the age of 25 she gave birth to a daughter, Yarina. But after five years of marriage, family relations deteriorated.

There were scandals, quarrels, misunderstandings. Maria really wanted to save her family. For a long time she endured family conflicts. She left many times and then came back again. The singer was born in a family with Ukrainian traditions, where there were father and mother. She did not understand how to live differently.

For the sake of her daughter, she tried to save the family. But the moment came when Maria realized that in these family quarrels she was losing herself, her dreams and desires. The couple divorced in 2003.

After the divorce, Maria and her daughter moved to a rented apartment in Kyiv. In order for Yarina to grow in prosperity, the singer made a lot of efforts, working for two. After the divorce, Maria Burmaka realized that she had made the right choice. This gave her an incentive to realize her creativity.

Maria's musical career developed - recording new albums, touring, filming video clips. Everything went well for the singer. Creativity remains a priority for Mary now. As the singer says, men come and go, but music always stays with me.

Mary's daughter is 25 years old. Like her mother, she graduated from a music school with a guitar class. She studied at the Kiev Humanitarian Lyceum at the Taras Shevchenko University.

Maria has an Instagram page. There she shares her successes and impressions with subscribers. In her free time, the singer likes to draw pictures and sew.

In the first place, the artist has creativity. She presented her video clip "Don't Stay" (2019). In May 2019, a concert by Maria Burmaka was held, accompanied by the Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The concert consisted of two parts.

In the first part, gentle, lyrical, quiet songs were performed with a guitar. The second part was accompanied by the music of a symphony orchestra led by the winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize Vladimir Sheiko.

Maria Burmaka does not forget about charity either, giving concerts in many countries. She is one of the few singers who performs only Ukrainian compositions. There are no songs in Russian on her concerts and recorded albums. And now she does not change her creative direction.
