May Waves is a Russian rap artist and songwriter. He began to compose his first poems during his school years. May Waves recorded his debut tracks at home in 2015. The very next year, the rapper recorded songs at the professional studio Ameriqa.
In 2015, the collections "Departure" and "Departure 2: probably forever" are very popular. After the presentation of Rock Star, the young man began to be called the "Rostov Weeknd".
Childhood and youth of Daniil Meilikhov
Under the creative pseudonym May Waves, the name Daniil Meilikhov is hidden. The boy was born on January 31, 1997 in the provincial Rostov-on-Don. It is known that Daniel has a younger brother.
When Meilikhov Jr. went to the 1st grade, dad gave his son a cassette of the Kasta group. In addition, the tracks of Vasily Vakulenko (Basta) sounded in Daniil's player. Musical tastes began to form from early childhood.
As a 5th grade student, Daniel began to compose his first poems. Interestingly, Meilikhov later set some of his poems to music and sang them.
Daniel had no doubt that he wanted to connect his life with the stage and creativity. During his school years, he recorded tracks and posted works on the Internet.
Creative path and music of the artist
The debut composition May Waves created in 2015. He wrote the song at the home of his friend Anton Khudi. Anton Meilikhov recorded it with the talented beatmaker Ameriqa (Andrey Shcherbakov), who specialized in fashionable sound.
A year later, a few days before his birthday, the young man, having gained experience, decided to write to America, with whom he agreed to record tracks in a professional recording studio.
The first track, which was recorded in the Ameriqano studio, was the musical composition "Don't". The guys were on the same wavelength. They quickly found a common language, and Americano expressed admiration for Daniel's vocal abilities.
In the same period of time, Daniel met rapper Pika at an ATL concert in Rostov. The guys performed at Peaks "as a warm-up act". Meilikhov appeared in the spring release of Pika "ALFV" in the musical compositions "Fuck the Format" and "We are in the store ammo in the store." Later, Pica invited May Waves to star in the video clip "So I Live".
Already in the summer, the presentation of Daniil's mixtape "Waves" took place. The collection contains 14 tracks in total. A music video for the song Samurai has already been released.
Later, a joint track Moloko Plus was recorded (with the participation of Freestyle). The track marked the creation of the "party" MLK+. At the first stages, the team included: May Waves, OT and Ameriqa. However, then another member of Ploty entered.
In the summer of the same year, Daniel took part in the recording of the musical composition of the Caspian Cargo group Ves. The soloists of the "Caspian cargo" appreciated the abilities of the young rapper. In addition to the famous May Weiss, Ploty, Biggie-X and The Nek were on the Oscar track.
In November, the rapper presented the album "Leaving" to fans of his work. This is a mini-compilation, which includes only 7 tracks. The songs of the record "Departure" are performed in a melancholic style.
The collection "Departure" includes personal and intimate songs. In the tracks, Daniil shared with his listeners the emotions he experienced - the loss of friends, parting, loneliness, love experiences.
Andrey, who is known under the pseudonym America, described the songs of the collection as "autumn sound". And, really, under the tracks you want to wrap yourself in a blanket and drink hot tea.
In December, rappers May Waves and Ameriqa released a joint album Surfin. The highlight of the album was the alternation of Russian and English verses. The sound of the record is performed using scream vocals.
In the spring of 2017, Daniil's next mixtape Java House appeared. The rapper revealed that it was originally supposed to be a freestyle record recorded in a month. In the spring, a video clip for the track KHALEd appeared on the Internet.
Daniel's fame began to increase exponentially. Every month, the rapper was offered a contract by serious production centers.
Once Danya was contacted by a representative of the Russian label RedSun, which belongs to Fadeev. However, the singer refused to sign a contract.
According to May Waves, such production centers are not at all interested in creativity and it doesn’t matter what the singer wants to convey with his songs.
Concerts, albums, and, of course, money are much more important. Labels “just put out your personality,” Daniel commented.
In autumn, fans could see a bright video for the song Rock Star. After the release of the video, the Russian rapper began to be compared with foreign artists Post Malone and The Weeknd. May Waves was very negative about such comparisons. He is an individual, so it is not appropriate to compare him with someone else.
In the autumn of the same year, the rapper presented the album "Departure 2: Probably Forever". In total, the collection includes 7 tracks. About this record, Daniil said: “Leaving is something that happens inside me.
It is a kind of internal philosophy. You have to be truly free to be able to leave the place where you feel bad. However, you should not forget that it was in this “bad” place that you were formed. You must be grateful to him for yourself and the formation of yourself as a person.
After the successful tape, the rapper's musical career began to develop even more. Daniil began to organize concerts, he performed in nightclubs, the media are interested in him. Oxxxymiron wrote a flattering post about May Waves on Twitter, which further increased interest in the performer.
At the peak of his musical career, Daniil had the opportunity to get acquainted with representatives of the Russian rap culture. He developed friendly relations with Jacques-Anthony and PLC.

Despite the publicity, Daniel does not tell information about his personal life. Only one thing is known - the young man is not married and has no children.
The rapper dedicated one song from his repertoire to a girl named Maria. The lines from the track sound like this: "Look for someone normal who will argue and be jealous."
Mom May Waves is not happy with the profession that her son has chosen. She wants Daniel to do something more serious and have a good financial “foundation” under his feet.

In 2018, it became known that Daniel became a member of the Booking Machine concert agency, headed by Oxxxymiron and Ilya Mamai. A month later, the rapper, together with Ameriqa, presented the collection Surfin' 2, which consisted of 11 tracks.
In 2019, the rapper presented the album "Drip-on-Don" to fans of his work. The album includes both solo and collaborative tracks. The performer will spend 2020 on a concert tour of major Russian cities.
