Escape to the Meg Myers stage

Meg was born on October 6, 1986. Meg's mother professed the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses. And the father did not support the religious beliefs of his wife. The singer has three older brothers and two younger brothers and sisters.

When Maggie was 5 years old, her parents separated, and her mother married a like-minded Jehovist. And the family moved from Tennessee to Ohio. The orthodox habits of the parents did their job - little Maggie's childhood was not rosy.

Everything that happened to her led to a "breakthrough" in creativity. It was the personal and intimate that made Myers' music appealing to listeners.

Even after a while, the singer admits that the experience of being in a strict religious family put pressure on her, and there was a feeling that she would never get rid of him.

For example, Meg recently surprised fans with a request to give her action figures, such as ninja turtles. As a child, she really liked this cartoon - she was a tomboy and tried to imitate the boys more. But among Jehovah's Witnesses it is forbidden to watch cartoons depicting weapons. And also with scenes of violence, so turtle houses were banned.

One day, Meg was given a doll, a playset with Polly Pocket. And the girl burst into tears and asked very much to replace the doll with some game figure. When figurines were brought to her concerts, Meg felt that she had something that she had been deprived of as a child.

As a teenager, Meg studied music. She played keyboards, guitar, sang songs of her own composition. It is not known how the usual hobby would have ended, only Meg always protested - and music was the safest form of protest.

All that those days are associated with is a painful desire for confession, an insatiable need to express an opinion and be heard. The protest was in the lyrics, in the performance, in the fact that at the age of 19 Meg ran away from home.

Meg Myers: La-la-land

Meg moved to Los Angeles and became the bassist in her brother's band. Earning a living as a waitress, in one part of the week she delivered food and drinks, in the second she played in the same cafe. At that time she lived with a boyfriend in a one-room apartment. After parting with him, Meg directed all her efforts to her career.

During this time, she met producer Dr. Rosen in Los Angeles. Thanks to him, she signed a contract with Atlantic Records and [GOOD] CROOK. Through working with this producer, Myers' sound became more coherent.

The performer admitted that the material with which Rosen had to work was "raw". She called it Attention Deficit Disorder, her habit of not getting things done. But it was Rosen who managed to do it, as he helped complete the songs.

Meg Myers musical chronology

Daughter in the Choir (late 2011 - early 2012)

The mini-album Daughter in the Choir was released at the end of 2012. One single from it was aired on the nightly program Last Call with Carson Daly. And he became popular. The second single was voted Track of the Week by British radio personality Mary Ann Hobbs. And the composition Monster is still one of the mandatory performances at every concert.

Myers' sincere story ensured the success of the debut album. The mood of the compositions was rebellious - young musicians often started with a riot. In all the songs, Myers is her story.

Make a Shadow (2013-2014)

The second work was released in February 2014 by Atlantic Records. Thanks to the release of the album, Myers organized a number of concerts around the States.

A real sensation was made by Myers' live performance with the song Heart Heart Head. The track, subsequently included in this album and released in April 2013, was recognized as a "musical orgasm".

The composition is as uncomfortable as possible, since its performance is the hysteria of the heroine, but also the most touching - it is simply impossible not to empathize.

In September 2013, the single Desire and the video for it were released. Meg was taken to the attention of alternative radio stations. The track soon entered the top 10 most wanted on Shazam.

Sorry (first studio album) (2014-2015)

The single Sorry was released in February 2014, and already in May, Meg went on tour with the "promotion" of a new album of the same name.

In July 2015, the single Lemon Eyes was released, two months later the single Motel.

Take Me to the Disco (2017-2018)

The release of the second studio album took place in May 2018. It has been called one of the most powerful and cathartic albums of the year.

About her style, Myers says that she was born from the harsh grunge punk rock. But she was interested in more iridescent, catchy pop music. According to Myers, this is an alternative. It's like Fiona Apple met Sinead O'Connor and Nirvana joined in.

During the formative period, Myers preferred male vocalists, although they sang not rock or alternative, but country. She hardly listened to female vocalists. Now, in adulthood, she admits that she began to respect the vocalists even more than before.

Myers' songs leave no one indifferent. This is a combination of anger at the world and the desire to unite with it. As well as a rich warm voice and raging percussion instruments.

Meg's permanent residence is now Los Angeles. But she constantly comes to Tennessee to visit her family, says that without them she cannot occupy herself with anything, she feels empty.

Meg tattooed the names of her younger brothers and sisters. She also has a small cross on her shoulder (this figurine means a butterfly in the symbolic language of Indian tribes).

There is also an unsuccessful tattoo - a small alien head on the ankle. Meg made it at the age of 14. And at her request, a friend (tattoo artist) corrected this image, turning it into a heart.
