Moderat is a popular Berlin-based electronic band whose soloists are Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert, Sebastian Szary) and Sascha Ring.
The main audience of the guys is young people from 14 to 35 years old. The group has already released several studio albums. Although much more often musicians delight fans with live performances.
The soloists of the group are frequent guests of nightclubs, music festivals and various events related to electronic music. Their work is loved not only in their native country, but also in the CIS countries.
The history of the creation of the Moderat group
The musical group officially announced itself in 2002. The band's first release was the EP Auf Kosten der Gesundheit, released in the same 2002.
A full-fledged debut album was released 7 years after the release of the EP. The collection received the same name Moderat. In general, reviews of the new record were favorable. For example, the popular magazine NOW gave the album 4 out of 5 points.
Critics called the tracks of the collection quite creative and catchy. URB magazine gave the debut collection 5 points out of 5, noting its "extraordinary beauty and memorability".
After the release of the debut collection, the musicians focused on touring. Also, the soloists of the Moderat group could be seen at thematic music festivals.
In 2009, readers of the popular online music magazine Resident Advisor voted for Moderat. Soon the group was the first in the nomination "Best Live Performance of the Year".
For musicians, this recognition of fans was a surprise. A year later, the Berlin team took the 7th position in the same nomination.
According to the good old tradition in the summer and autumn of the same 2010, the Moderat group organized concerts as part of a European tour. They also did not forget to attend music festivals.
In 2013, the discography of the band was replenished with the album Moderat 2. The musicians presented a colorful video clip for the musical composition Bad Kingdom.
The illustrated video, directed and produced by Pfadfinderei, brought to life the young Briton's confrontation with the greedy underworld of 1966 London.
In 2016, the musicians presented their third studio album Moderat III. The musicians released a video clip for the musical composition Reminder, which appeared on YouTube video hosting.
End of creative activity
No one could have imagined that in 2017 the team would officially announce the end of their creative activity. The German supertrio Moderat has decided to postpone their famous project indefinitely.
The last concert of the musicians took place on September 2 at the Kindle-Bühne Wulheide in Berlin.
In their interview for LOLA magazine, the band's soloists "opened the curtain" a little.
“Moderat is a transitional project for all members of the newly minted team,” said Sasha Ring, aka Apparat. "I'm sorry to admit it, but it's time for us to do solo things," added Gernot Bronsert, a member of Modeselektor. “Most likely, someday Moderat will come to life again and create. But we cannot name the exact date of the revival of the group. So the Berlin concert may or may not be the end of an era.”
Interesting facts about the Moderat group
- Work on the Moderat disc took place in the famous Hansa studio in Berlin, from where David Bowie's masterpiece Heroes came out.
- It took the musicians 7 years to record their debut album. Despite the fact that fans have been waiting for the collection for a long time, the content of the album made them very happy.
- On the 15th floor in a Berlin apartment, Moderat composed their second collection. Despite the "cold" atmosphere, the record turned out to be incredibly warm, and even intimate.
- The covers of the first two collections for the Moderat group were drawn by the Berlin musician, and part-time talented artist Moritz Friedrich.
- Moderat, Apparat, Modeselektor are musicians who are ready to sing odes to Berlin. Interestingly, every musician has a track called Berlin in their repertoire.
- Sebastian Shari of Moderat and Radiohead musician Thom Yorke are not just colleagues, but good friends. Modeselektor acted as the opening act for Radiohead at a concert in Poznań and Prague. Thom Yorke in one of his interviews said that Moderat is his favorite Berlin band.
Despite the fact that many assumed that the Moderat group would soon reunite, this did not happen, at least in 2020. But there is good news - the former soloists of the group continue to create music, however, already solo.

In 2022, the guys broke the silence and released a cool video for Fast Land. Then they pleased with the information that the release of the LP More D4ta will take place very soon. By the way, they "tormented" the fans with the expectation of a full-length LP for more than 5 years.
Soon the premiere of the long-awaited disc took place. She has incorporated 10 tracks. At the end of June 2022, Moderat plans to visit the capital of Ukraine. The electronic project plans to perform at a secret location. By the way, the group visited the country for the first time.
