The team with the creative name Silent at Home was created relatively recently. The musicians formed the group in 2017. Rehearsals and recording of LPs took place in Minsk and abroad. Tours have already taken place outside their native country.
The history of the creation and composition of the group are silent at home
It all started at the beginning of 2010. Roman Komogortsev and Yegor Shkutko had common tastes in music. The guys studied at the same educational institution, and it so happened that friendship began between them. Later it turned out that they lived close to each other.
They loved the foreign rock of the 1980s. One day the guys realized that they were ripe for creating their own project. In addition, Roman played the guitar perfectly. Egor wrote poems that could be used to create compositions.
In one of their interviews, the guys said that at first it seemed to them that nothing good would come of their project. Of course, they had every reason to think so. The absence of a producer and normal conditions for rehearsals made itself felt. Two months later, the musicians believed in themselves.
“No personnel” is the first project of the guys. The official year of birth is 2014. The musicians created tracks in the styles of funk, trip-hop, indie pop. The guys were responsible for the musical component. And the singer (invited) performed the first tracks for fans of heavy music. We are talking about the compositions: "Technology", "I'm not a communist" and "Silence and hide and seek".
Thanks to the first performances, the leaders of the group realized that the music interested the listeners, but the lyrics and vocals did not. Soon they decided to change the composition of the No Personnel project and the concept as a whole.
Now the musicians performed under the name "Silence at Home". Yegor Shkutko was behind the microphone, and Roman Komogortsev was responsible for the sound of the guitar, synthesizer and drum machine.
Interestingly, the band could not find a suitable bassist. Some musicians left the group after the first rehearsals. Others left because they didn’t think that Silent at Home was a promising group.
Roma and Yegor were so disappointed that they wanted to use a computer analogue of the string rhythm section. But they abandoned this idea in time. Soon bassist Pavel Kozlov joined the group.
The creative path and music of the Silent House group
When the topic with the composition of the group was closed, the musicians faced a difficult question - in what musical genre would they work? The band members were crazy about rock compositions of the 1980s of the last century.
They were inspired by post-punk, as well as minimal wave and gothic rock. After negotiations, they decided that they would "move" their project in this direction.
The musicians were interested at times in the so-called "scoop". In their understanding, this period was characterized by poster slogans, strict censorship and fundamental culture. But at the same time, the soloists of the Silent Houses group realized that modern people, in particular the younger generation, most likely would not approve of their choice.
The guys decided not to risk with the repertoire. Nobody forbade them to experiment with the stage image. The outer shell of the musicians was expressed in the dawn performances of the capital's Soviet rock clubs. But the first longplay of the group was influenced by the work of Tsoi and his group "Kino".
Group debut
In 2017, the discography of the young band was opened by the debut disc "From the Roofs of Our Houses". Following the collection in the second half of the same 2017, the single “Kommersants” was released.
When the album was successfully posted on the SoundCloud platform, it caught the attention of label owner Detriti Records. The album was re-released in Germany. Despite the fact that the Silent Houses group was not a very popular group then, the album was released in significant circulation.
Such a small recognition allowed the team to gain their first fans. In the wake of popularity, the guys published compositions:
- "At the bottom";
- "Dance";
- "Waves";
- "Yearning";
- "Forecast"
- "Movies";
- "Cell".
Soon the band's discography was replenished with another album. The new collection was called "Floors". The work quickly spread on social networks. Some tracks have received several million views.
By the way, the Silent at Home group did not really count on their native country. The musicians wanted to conquer the European scene. These are already different possibilities and scales. They refused to perform on the Minsk Arena stage and other venues in Belarus. Naturally, local fans were not happy with this behavior of their idols.
The musicians managed to realize their plans. Concerts of the Silent Houses group took place on a large scale in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. The peak of the group's popularity was in 2020. This is due to the fact that the team went to many prestigious foreign festivals. This year, the guys presented a large-scale tour of the continent.
Soon, the guys presented several new singles to fans of their work at once. We are talking about the compositions "Stars" and "Along the edge of the island." Both songs were warmly received by fans and music critics.
Signing with an American label
2020 has been a very successful year for the team. The fact is that this year the musicians signed a contract with the prestigious American label Sacred Bones Records. The musicians re-released the first two LPs.
The track "Sudno (Boris Ryzhiy)" from the album "Etazhi" took 2nd position in the Spotify Viral 50 music chart. The song is very often used when editing extreme videos. This is one of the most beloved compositions of the Silent Houses group in the United States.
In 2020, the band was scheduled to play their North American shows. This would allow the musicians to expand the army of fans. But, alas, the planned tour did not take place. It's all because of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The musicians did not sit still. They took part in the recording of a Black Sabbath tribute LP. The musicians recorded a composition called Heaven and Hell.
Interesting facts about the group
- The name "Silence at home" was chosen by chance. One day, Roman was riding in a minibus and saw panel post-Soviet houses flickering by. The picture was complemented by gloomy weather and rain.
- Prior to joining the group, Roman worked as a plasterer, Pavel as a welder, and Egor as an electrician.
- The group's soloists often describe the compositions as "hopeless" and "gloomy".
"Silence at home" today
In 2020, the band's discography was replenished with the album "Monument". The record was warmly received by fans and music critics.
In the same year, during the protests in the country, after the scandalous presidential elections, the soloists of the group supported the protesters on their page in social networks.
In addition, in October 2020, the musicians took part in the Evening Urgant show. On the air, they performed the song “No Answer” for the audience and fans.
