Composition of the Mumiy Troll group

Ilya Lagutenko is the founder of a rock band. He is interested in rock as a teenager, and even then he plans to create his own musical group. The talented Ilya Lagutenko gathered a company of friends Andrei Barabash, Igor Kulkov, Pavel and Kirill Babiy back in the early 80s.

The first name of the group sounds like Boney-P. The soloists of the musical group perform compositions exclusively in English. It's not that they are delighted with English, just for that period of time, this is the only opportunity to stand out from the rest of the musical groups.

Next, Lagutenko met with Leonid Burlakov. The latter offers to rename the created musical group. Now Boney-P, became known as the Shock group. Following Leonid, the group included a couple of new faces - guitarists Albert Krasnov and Vladimir Lutsenko.

But the name Mumiy Troll appeared in 1983. By a happy coincidence, from this moment the history of the rock band begins. Ilya Lagutenko begins to actively promote the musical group.

The musical group received its first dose of popularity in its hometown and in the Far East. In the middle of the 90s, Mumiy Troll suspended his musical activity for a while. According to Lagutenko himself, he lost his source of inspiration, and he did not understand where he should move on.

There is no "demand" for their songs?

In the mid-90s, Ilya ended up in London, at the representative office of a Russian company. Further, Lagutenko, together with his partner from the musical group Leonid, open a store in Vladivostok. They abandon Mumiy Troll because they believe that there is no "demand" for their songs.

One day, Roman Samovarov visited the children's shop and offered them to restore Mumiy Troll's activities. At first, Leonid and Ilya were skeptical about this proposal. Funds were needed to promote the group. No one gave a guarantee that Mumiy Troll's songs would hook music lovers.

Roman Samovarov convinces Lagutenko to delve into his records, and on the basis of the written works, record an album in England. They thought that the record in England would be of high quality and not hit hard on the wallet. Leonid Lutsenko at first supports the guys' idea, but at that time he succeeded as an engineer, so he decides to leave the musical group.

As a result, Ilya and Roman "get" into the group of studio musicians among the inhabitants of England. Over time, the group formed completely. Ilya and Roman are joined by Denis Transkiy, bassist Yevgeny Zvidenny and Yuri Tsaler.

Closer to 2018, the old composition has changed again. Ilya Lagutenko remained the permanent soloist. Today the band consists of drummer Oleg Pungin, bass player Pavel Vovk and guitarist Artem Kritsin. Alexander Kholenko is responsible for the electronic sound of the group.

The peak of popularity of the Mumiy Troll group

The return of Mumiy Troll to the stage caused a great resonance. Old fans watched the work of the musical group. Immediately after returning to the music world, the guys will present two albums - "New Moon of April" and "Do Yu-Yu".

The first records were sold out. However, they did not add much popularity to Mumiy Troll. The work of the musical group was closely watched only by the old fans of the group.

The incomprehensible lyrics of Mumiy Troll's songs get a share of misunderstanding among music lovers. The group is immediately labeled informal. The well-known producer Alexander Shulgin took up the promotion of the musical group.

He breaks rotations for Mumiy Troll and helps the guys shoot several video clips at once. "Cat of the Cat" and "Run Away" are now shown on local TV channels.

Until 1998, the musical group presented 5 albums - “Marine”, “Caviar”, “Happy New Year, Baby” and “Shamora”, in two parts. In the latest album, Ilya Lagutenko presented his early work in modern processing. After fruitful work, concerts were expected from the guys.

After 1998, Mumiy Troll spent 1,5 years on tour. The musicians gathered a full house, they were warmly received by the public. It was the success that the leader of the group, Ilya Lagutenko, counted on so much.

Seva Novgorodsky, noted: “In Lagutenko’s poems there was a “string space”, a philosophical, and most importantly, an emotional load, which could not go unnoticed.”

This was the main highlight of the rock band. Deep philosophical texts did not leave indifferent fans of the rock music genre.

The musical composition "Dolphin" entered the golden fund of Russian rock. Ilya Lagutenko believes that the interest of the public needs to be warmed up. He recommends releasing albums with some delay. In his opinion, such a move would force fans to immediately buy records after their official release.

Album "Just like mercury aloe"

In 2000, the guys released one of the brightest albums - "Just like mercury of aloe" under the slogan "The first album of the new millennium". Clips were shot for the songs “Bride?”, “Strawberry”, “Without deception” and “There is no carnival”.

In 2001, Mumiy Troll had the honor to represent his country at the Eurovision International Music Contest. On the big stage, the guys performed the song "Lady Alpine Blue".

After the competition, they translated and recorded the song in Russian. The musical composition was called "The Promise" and was included in Mumiy Troll's latest album, called "Memoirs".

A couple of years later, Lagutenko and his team go on a tour with the Memoirs Tour program, where they gather thousands of grateful fans.

At concerts, Lagutenko performed old compositions. Ilya also presented several new, unreleased singles, including "Where am I?" and "Bear".

The guys pleased with their next concert in 2005. This time the guys organized a concert in support of the Merge and Acquisition album.

Award from MTV Russia Music Awards

And in 2007, when Lagutenko received another award from the MTV Russia Music Awards in the Legend nomination, Lagutenko announced that he was preparing a new album for publication.

The top compositions of the fresh album are Amba's tracks with the hits Bermuda and Ru.Da. In 2008, Mumiy Troll presents an album with the original title "8". This is one of the failed works of the musical group.

According to music critics, Ilya Lagutenko did not "bother" over the quality of the lyrics. Pleased only with high-quality musical accompaniment.

Ilya Lagutenko decided to rectify the situation by working on the album "SOS Sailor". The group devoted a worthy biopic to the history of the recording of the presented album. It is known that the guys recorded a record during a round-the-world trip on the Sedov sailboat.

On their trip around the world, the guys took with them musical instruments exclusively of Russian production.

The new album was produced by Ben Hillier himself. Ilya Lagutenko has repeatedly admitted to journalists that the album "SOS Sailor" is a tribute to Russian rock, clubs and musical communities that influenced the formation of his musical career.

A couple of years later, the musicians release another album - Pirated Copies. A video clip was shot for the song "From a Clean Slate", in which Ilya Lagutenko's little daughter played.

Interestingly, this album did not go on sale. The record, together with Lagutenko's autograph, went to the winner of the competition organized by Ilya.

Mumiy Troll: a period of active creativity

The songs of the Russian rock band Mumiy Troll are also in demand in the cinema. Musical compositions can be heard in the films "Companion", "Fiction", "Grandmother of Easy Virtue", as well as in the TV series "Margosha".

The soloists of the musical group are not going to take a creative break. In 2018, Ilya Lagutenko will present a new album called East X Northwest. In support of the new album, Mumiy Troll organizes concerts at major venues in Latvia, Belarus and Moldova.

It turned out that this is not the last novelty of the year. In October 2020, the musicians delighted fans with the release of the tribute album Carnival. No. XX years. It should be noted that this is a collection of cover versions of the tracks of the disc “Just like mercury of aloe”.
