Oasis (Oasis): Biography of the group

The Oasis group was very different from their "competitors". During its heyday in the 1990s thanks to two important features.

First, unlike the whimsical grunge rockers, Oasis noted an excess of "classic" rock stars.

Secondly, instead of drawing inspiration from punk and metal, the Manchester band worked on classic rock, with a particular focus on The Beatles.

Origin and creation of the Oasis group

The Oasis band was formed in Manchester (England). Through the efforts of songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher and his younger brother Liam. Liam also acted as a performer. In the early 1990s, they formed a band with guitarist Paul Arthurs, drummer Tony McCarroll and bassist Paul McGuigan.

None of the latter stayed permanently with Oasis. This “layout of things” confirms the fact that the team belongs to the Gallagher brothers.

From stars to superstars

The band's first album, Definitely Maybe, was released in 1994 and was a significant success in the UK.

Giving listeners a sense of energetic guitar music alongside The Beatles, Definitely Maybe became the epicenter of the Britpop movement. Young and active English bands, drawing on the sound of earlier British artists, added a new modern sound to their songs.

In the United States, the album was not as successful, but Oasis was able to become a superstar at a time when most popular bands were more strict in terms of sound and had an introspective attitude. On the contrary, the songs of Noel Gallagher (most of which are duets with Liam) literally “gushed” with energy.

Capturing the American Audience

The band's success in America came with their next album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. It came out a year after Definitely Maybe. Based on the melody and style of its predecessor. Allowed musicians to use a range of sounds and song techniques. The ballads Wonderwall and Don't Look Backin Anger became very popular songs on American radio.

Oasis is now a household name on both sides of the Atlantic. At the same time, the Morning Glory album emphasized the need to delay the line-up change. But drummer Tony McCarroll was replaced by Alan White before the album was finished.

Victims of our own success

In response to the popularity of Morning Glory, Oasis made sure their next album was even louder and more successful. Be Here Now (1997) is a tribute to John Lennon's commentary on the message of rock music.

Despite the fact that The Beatles were still the strongest source of inspiration for the band, the album was dominated by guitar rock and long song times. The Be Here Now album as a whole turned out to be a commercial "failure" and absolutely did not correspond to the legacy of the previous Oasis recordings.

In addition, the Gallagher brothers' reputation for tabloid scandals was beginning to make their music seem inconsequential and commercially unpromising.

Slow Decline Oasis

The disappointing release of Be Here Now was exacerbated by the band's even greater turmoil. Before starting work on a sequel, Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan left Oasis. Only the brothers Gallagher and Alan White remained to work on the album.

Due to a negative audience reaction, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000) barely made it to American radio, although the band still had "fans" in the UK. Actually Standing on the Shoulder of Giants was an improved version of Be Here Now, but the strange off-format sound overshadowed the good and touching songs.

By this point, the best days of Oasis were far behind them.

Oasis attempts to return to its former glory

Guitarist Jem Archer and bassist Andy Bell joined Oasis as session musicians on Heathen Chemistry (2002). The band no longer had any hope of returning the American audience. Although the album was a more simple rock record.

Archer and Bell wrote the songs, as Liam Gallagher had previously done. Together they created a more varied sounding work. But Oasis just couldn't find the popularity it used to in the good old days.

Zack Starkey (son of Ringo Starr of The Beatles) replaced drummer Alan White for the 2005 album Don't Believe the Truth. As with all albums since Be Here Now, Don't Believe the Truth had its share of happy moments, but not enough to make it a success.

On October 7, 2008, Oasis returned with Dig Out Your Soul. The first single Shock of the Lightning was released at the end of August. It made it to some modern rock charts.

Noel left the group

On August 28, 2009, Noel Gallagher announced his departure from the band. He stated that he simply could not work with his brother anymore. Some "fans" were shocked by this news. While others speculated that this was the latest chapter in the long-running Gallagher feud and that Noel would eventually return.

The breakup became final when Noel put together his band Noel Gallagher High Flying Birds in 2010. Liam and the rest of the Oasis formed Beady Eye in 2009. Since then, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have released their self-titled debut album (2011) and Chasing Yesterday (2015), and have remained active to date.

Beady Eye has released two albums. Different Gear, Still Speeding (2011) and BE (2013) before disbanding in 2014. Despite rumors of a reunion for many years, there are no definite plans to resurrect Oasis to date.

Main Oasis albums

British "fans" and critics usually celebrate the album Definitely Maybe. The second Oasis album is the pinnacle of the band's musical work. This is an amazing, touching and funny collection of songs about love and drugs.

The album Morning Glory got its name from beautiful ballads like Wonderwall. The sound of the work changed from song to song. From hard rock in the song Some Might Say. To sad psychedelics in Cast No Shadow.

At the height of their popularity, Oasis was not shy about showing off their fame. Morning Glory is an album where they maintained that whole “greatest band in the world” image that they liked to brag about in the press as well.
