The number of records sold is over 20 million copies. Isn't this proof that this is a legendary rock band?

History of creation and composition of the group

The history of Papa Roach began in 1993. It was then that Jacoby Shaddix and Dave Buckner met on the football field and talked not about sports, but about music.

Young people noted that their musical tastes coincide. This acquaintance grew into friendship, and after that - into the decision to create a rock band. Later the band was joined by guitarist Jerry Horton, trombonist Ben Luther and bassist Will James.

The first concert of the new team took place at the school talent competition. Interestingly, at that time the band did not yet have their own developments, so they “borrowed” one of Jimi Hendrix's songs.

However, the Papa Roach group failed to win. The musicians did not even get to the last prizes. The loss did not upset, but only tempered the new musical group.

The guys rehearsed every day. Later they even bought a concert van. These events inspired Shaddix to take the first creative pseudonym Coby Dick. The soloists chose the name Papa Roach after Shaddix's stepfather, Howard William Roach.

A year has passed since the formation of the rock band Papa Roach, and the musicians presented their debut mixtape Potatoes for Christmas, which was a little strange. The musicians did not have enough experience, but still the first fans of the Papa Roach group appeared.

The music of the rock band Papa Roach

In 1997, the musicians presented their fans with the collection Old Friends from Young Years. The band recorded the album with the following line-up: Jacoby Shaddix (vocals), Jerry Horton (singing vocals and guitar), Tobin Esperance (bass) and Dave Buckner (drums).

To date, the album is considered a real value. The fact is that the musicians recorded the disc with their own money. The soloists had enough for 2 thousand copies.

In 1998, the Papa Roach group presented another mixtape 5 Tracks Deep, which was released with a circulation of only 1 thousand copies, but made a favorable impression on music critics.

In 1999, the rock band's discography was replenished with the compilation Let 'Em Know - this is the group's last independent album.

The popularity of the collection attracted the attention of the organizer of the label Warner Music Group. The label later provided a small amount of money for the production of a five-track demo CD.

Papa Roach was inexperienced but smart. They insisted that the influential Jay Baumgardner become their producer. Jay said in an interview:

“Initially, I did not believe in the success of the team. But I had to visit one of the guys' performances to understand that they were potential. Some viewers already knew the rockers' songs by heart."

The demo did not impress Warner Bros. But the recording company DreamWorks Records rated it at "5+".

Immediately after signing the contract, Papa Roach went to the recording studio to record the Infest compilation, which was officially released in 2000.

The top songs were: Infest, Last Resort, Broken Home, Dead Cell. In total, the collection includes 11 musical compositions.

Definitely the collection Infest hit the top ten. In the first week, the collection was released with a circulation of 30 copies. At the same time, the presentation of the video clip Last Resort took place. Interestingly, the work was nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards as the best novelty.

Tour with "big stars"

After the presentation of the collection, the Papa Roach group went on tour. The musicians performed on the same stage with such stars as: Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Xzibit and Ludacris.

After a big tour, Papa Roach returned to the recording studio again to record the Born to Rock compilation. The album was later called Love Hate Tragedy, which was released in 2004.

The album was not as successful as the previous compilation, however, some tracks were considered the best. In the Love Hate Tragedy compilation, the style of the tracks has changed.

Papa Roach retained the nu metal sound, but this time they focused on vocals rather than music. This change was influenced by the work of Eminem and Ludacris. The collection contained rap. The hits of the album were the tracks: She Loves Me Not and Time and Time Again.

In 2003, the group's discography was replenished with the third disc. We are talking about the album Getting Away with Murder. They worked on the collection together with the famous producer Howard Benson.

In this collection, unlike the previous ones, rap and nu-metal did not sound. The song Getting Away with Murder surpassed Love Hate Tragedy mainly due to the composition Scars.

The disc received the status of "platinum". The collection was released with a circulation of over 1 million copies.

Group breakthrough thanks to The Paramour Sessions compilation

The collection The Paramour Sessions, which was released in 2006, became another "breakthrough" of the musical group. There was no need to think about the name of the album. The record was recorded at Paramour Mansion, the name that led this compilation.

Shaddix noticed that the acoustics in the castle made the sound unique. The album consisted of romantic rock ballads. In this collection, the vocalist performed the compositions at 100%. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 Charts at number 16.

Some time later, the musicians shared information that they want to record a collection of acoustic tracks, such as: Forever, Scars and Not Coming Home. However, the release had to be postponed for some time.

In an interview with Billboard.com, Shaddix explained that, most likely, fans of Papa Roach's work are not ready for the acoustic sound of the songs.

But there were no novelties either. And, already in 2009, the musicians presented the next album Metamorphosis (classical, nu-metal).

In 2010, Time for Annihilation was released. The collection consisted of 9 songs, as well as 5 new musical compositions.

But before the official release of this collection, the musicians presented the best hits album …To Be Loved: The Best of Papa Roach.

How the band members asked fans not to buy the album

Then the band's soloists officially asked their "fans" not to buy the album, since the Geffen Records label released it against the will of the musicians.

A few years later, Papa Roach's discography was expanded with The Connection. The highlight of the disc was the track Still Swingin. In support of the new record, the band went on a big tour as part of The Connection.

Interestingly, the rockers first visited Moscow, visited the cities of Belarus, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.

In 2015, the musicians presented the FEAR compilation. The album was named after the feelings that the musicians of the Papa Roach group experienced. The top track of this collection was the track Love Me Till It Hurts.

In 2017, the musicians announced that they were ready to record another collection for fans. Fans also helped the soloists of the rock band collect funds for recording a record. Soon music lovers saw the Crooked Teeth compilation.
