The history of the creation and composition of the Paramore group

Paramore formed in 2004 in Franklin. At the origins of the team are:

  • Hayley Williams (vocals, keyboards);
  • Taylor York (guitar);
  • Zach Farro (percussion)

Each of the soloists, before creating their own team, "raved" about music and dreamed of their own group. Taylor and Zach were great at playing musical instruments. Hayley Williams has been singing since childhood. The girl honed her vocal abilities thanks to vocal lessons that she took from Brett Manning, the famous American teacher.

Before Paramore was formed, Williams and future bassist Jeremy Davis played in The Factory, and the Farro brothers perfected their guitar playing in their back garage. In her interview, Hayley said:

“When I saw the guys, I thought they were crazy. They were exactly the same as me. The guys constantly played their instruments, and it seemed that they were not interested in anything else in life. The main thing is to have a guitar, drums and some food nearby ... ".

In the early 2000s, Hayley Williams signed with Atlantic Records as a solo artist. The label owners saw that the girl had strong vocal skills and charisma. They wanted to make her a second Madonna. However, Hayley dreamed of something completely different - she wanted to play alternative rock and create her own band.

Label Atlantic Records heard the desire of the young performer. Actually, from that moment the story of the creation of the Paramore group began.

At the initial stage, the band included: Hayley Williams, guitarist and backing vocalist Josh Farro, rhythm guitarist Jason Bynum, bassist Jeremy Davis and drummer Zach Farro.

Interestingly, at the time of the creation of the Paramore group, Zach was only 12 years old. There was no time to think about the name for a long time. Paramore is the maiden name of one of the band members. Later, the team learned about the existence of the homophone paramour, which means "secret lover".

The creative path and music of Paramore

Initially, Paramore's soloists planned to collaborate with Atlantic Records on a permanent basis. But the label had a different opinion.

The organizers considered that working with a young and informal group is humiliating and frivolous. The musicians began recording songs on the label Fueled by Ramen (a highly specialized rock company).

When the Paramore band reached their recording studio in Orlando, Florida, Jeremy Davis announced that he intended to leave the band. He left for personal reasons. Jeremy declined to provide details of his departure. In honor of this event, as well as the divorce of the vocalist, the band presented the song All We Know.

Soon the musicians presented the fans with their debut album All We Know is Falling (“Everything we know is falling apart”). Not only the "stuffing" of the disc was filled with meaning. The cover featured an empty red couch and a fading shadow.

“The shadow on the cover is an allegory for Jeremy leaving the band. His passing is a great loss for us. We feel an emptiness and we want you to know about it…,” said Williams.

All We Know is Falling was released in 2005. The album is a mix of pop punk, emo, pop rock and mall punk. The Paramore team was compared with the Fall Out Boy group, and Hayley Williams' vocals were compared with the famous singer Avril Lavigne. The album contains 10 tracks. The songs were positively received by music critics. The musicians lacked only arrogance and audacity.

All We Know is Falling only made it to the Billboard Heatseekers Albums. Much to the surprise of the soloists, the collection took only 30th position. Only in 2009 the album received the status of "gold" in the UK, and in 2014 - in the United States of America.

Before the tour in support of the record, the line-up was replenished with a new bassist. From now on, music lovers and fans enjoyed the amazing performance of John Hembrey. Despite the fact that John spent only 5 months in the group, he was remembered by the "fans" as the best bassist. Hembrey's place was again taken by Jeremy Davis. In December 2005, Jason Bynum was replaced by Hunter Lamb.

And then the Paramore group was followed by a performance with other, more popular bands. Gradually the musicians began to be recognized. They were named the best new team, and Hayley Williams took 2nd position in the list of the sexiest women, according to the editors of Kerrang!

Hunter Lamb left the team in 2007. The musician had an important event - a wedding. The guitarist was replaced by guitarist Taylor York, who had played with the Farro brothers before Paramore.

In the same year, the band's discography was replenished with a new album, Riot!. Thanks to good management, the compilation reached number 20 on the Billboard 200 and number 24 in the UK chart. The album sold 44 copies in a week.

This album was topped by the track Misery Business. In an interview, Williams called the song "the most honest song I've ever written." The new collection includes tracks written back in 2003. We are talking about musical compositions Hallelujah and Crush crush crush. The video clip for the last track was nominated as the best rock video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The following year began with a triumph for Paramore. The team in full force appeared on the cover of the popular magazine Alternative Press. The readers of the glossy magazine named Paramore the best band of the year. Actually, then the musicians almost put the Grammy award on the shelf. However, in 2008, Amy Winehouse received the award.

Paramore were just touring the UK and the United States on the Riot! Tour when fans learned that a number of performances had been canceled due to personal reasons.

Soon, journalists learned that the cause of the conflict in the group was that Josh Farro protested against Hayley Williams. Farro said that he doesn't like the fact that the vocalist is always in the spotlight.

But still, the musicians found the strength to return to the stage. The team went public in 2008. Paramore joined the Jimmy Eat World US tour. Then the band took part in the music festival Give It A Name.

In the summer of the same 2008, the group first appeared in Ireland, and since July they went on the The Final Riot! tour. A little later, the team replicated a live performance recording of the same name in Chicago, Illinois, as well as a behind-the-scenes documentary on DVD. After 6 months, the collection became "gold" in the United States of America.

Release of the third album

Paramore worked on the third collection in their native Nashville, Tennessee. According to Josh Farro, "It was much easier to write tracks when you are in your own home, and not in the walls of someone else's hotel." Soon the musicians presented the compilation Brand New Eyes.

The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. Over 100 copies were sold in its first week. Interestingly, after 7 years, sales of the collection exceeded 1 million copies.

The top songs of the new album were the songs: Brick By Boring Brick, The Only Exception, Ignorance. The success allowed the team to share the stage with such world stars as: Faith No More, Placebo, All Time Low, Green Day.

In the wake of popularity, information appeared that the Farro brothers were leaving the group. Josh opined that Hayley Williams is in Paramore a lot. He was not happy with the fact that the rest of the participants were, as if in the shadows. Josh said that Hailey acts like she's a solo singer and the rest of the musicians are her subordinates. She "perceives the musicians as an entourage," Farro commented. Zach left the group for a while. The musician wanted to spend more time with his family.

Despite the departure of talented musicians, the Paramore group continued their active creative work. The first result of the work was the track Monster, which became the soundtrack for the movie "Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon". A little later, the group's discography was replenished with a new collection of Paramore, which music critics called the best album in the group's discography.

This record topped the Billboard 200, and the composition Ain't It Fun won the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. In 2015, Jeremy Davis announced his departure to a fan. Jeremy couldn't leave peacefully. He demanded a fee from the sale of the album of the same name. Only two years later, the parties entered into a settlement agreement.

The departure of the musician coincided with the personal problems of Hayley Williams. The fact is that the singer just divorced her husband. The personal tragedy took a toll on Hailey's mental health. In 2015, the girl decided to take a creative break for a while.

In 2015, the team was handled by Taylor York. A year after leaving, Williams announced on Instagram that Paramore was working on a new compilation. In 2017, Zach Farro pleased his fans with his return to the team.

The past few years have been tense for each of the soloists of Paramore. The musicians dedicated the first single from the disc After Laughter (2017) Hard Times to these events. Almost all the tracks of the collection were written about the problems of depression, loneliness, unrequited love.

Music critics noted:

“I want to say right away that if you expect to hear anything similar to Paramore in Hailey's album, then don't download and don't listen to it. EP Petals For Armor I is something intimate, “own”, different… This is a completely different music and a completely different person…”.
