Childhood of Pedro Capo

Pedro Capo was born on November 14, 1980 in Santurce. His real name is Pedro Francisco Rodriguez Sosa. Pedro grew up in a creative family. For more than two centuries, his ancestors were engaged in music. From an early age, the boy watched his father and grandfather play the guitar, and also heard his mother singing. 

Pedro's grandmother, Irma Nydia Vasquez, held the title of Miss Puerto Rico in her youth. Bobby Capo (Pedro's father) is considered a music legend in Puerto Rico. He took his son with him to concerts, allowing him to watch the performance from behind the scenes. This immersion in the culture of music and performance made Pedro an artistic and creative child.

The first instrument that Pedro mastered was the guitar. He continued to practice and improve, quickly becoming proficient in this matter. This talent opened the door for him to start his career in the music business.

First musical attempts 

Many musicians and songwriters who grew up in families of famous parents forgo higher education in favor of the stage.

But Pedro did not follow this path. He graduated from high school and then entered the San Jose de Calasans College.

Together with fellow students, Pedro performed as part of the Marca Registrada group. Pedro was the guitarist and main vocalist of the band. Their concerts attracted a lot of people for the level of a student group.

After studying, Pedro moved to the United States, where he saw more opportunities for himself. As a tribute to his hometown and family, the young man took the pseudonym Kapo. The 19-year-old boy, once in New York, was ready for any creative proposal. 

There were months when the singer had nothing to pay for the apartment, he limited himself to food, even starved. Pedro gave concerts in musical theatres, clubs and bars, and later, having adopted the experience, he began his career as a solo star.

Pedro Capo's professional career began in 2005. Then he released his debut album Fuego y Amore, which is translated into English as Fire and Love. The singer signed a contract with the well-known company Sony Music, with which he re-released the album.

In 2009, Pedro Capo increased his popularity by recording a single with singer Thalia. The song Estoy Enamorado kept in the TOP of the Latin American charts. It has been listened to over 200 million times. Pedro is not one of those musicians who churn out compilations.

The musician recorded the next three albums for 10 years. Pedro Capo was released in 2011, Aquila in 2014 and En Letra de Otro in 2017.

Pedro did not limit himself to music only. In parallel with recording hits, he tried his hand at acting. Capo appeared in two films: Shut Up and Do It (2007), and a year later in Journey. The guy took part in musicals on the stage of New York.

At a 2015 concert in Puerto Rico, the singer blew everyone away with his outfit. Pedro took the stage at the José Miguel Agrelo Coliseum in white socks and short boxers. Such a move made the "fans" of the singer squeal, some even tried to climb onto the stage.

Hit Calma

Pedro Capo reached a new wave of fame in 2018. He released his most popular single to date, Calma. The video for this song has been viewed 46 million times on YouTube. Farruko's remix of this song got 10 times more views on the same site.

A year later, Pedro Capo received the Grammy Award. The award was presented for the creation of the best long-form music video. The singer received recognition thanks to the video clip of Pedro Capo: En Letra de Otro. It was the first such significant award in the entire musical career of the singer. And it became a sign that 12 years of work in the industry were not in vain.
