The history of the creation of Queen

The founders of the group were students of London's Imperial College. According to the original version of Brian Harold May and Timothy Staffel, the name of the band was "1984".

To recruit the team, the young guys posted ads on the territory of the educational institution, thus, they found a drummer.

In the autumn of 1964, the first concert took place. Three years later, the soloists managed to show themselves on the eyeliner to the Jimi Hendrix concert. After that, the band was renamed Smile, they were given a pass to the stage with celebrities (Pink Floyd).

In 1969, a pilot large-scale project was introduced with the powerful record company Mercury Records. The Smile group presented the song Earth / Step On Me, which made it a recognizable group.

In 1970, Staffel parted ways with his stage mates. His place was empty for a short time. The updated composition implied a new name, which the guys began to think about.

They thought about the names Grand Dance or RICH KIDS, but the participants liked the name Queen more.

Team members of the Queen group

The main composition of the Queen group at the very beginning of the heyday of popularity was stable: (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor). Before joining the team, the biography of the participants is similar - a musical past, love for their work since childhood.

But the bass player had to wait a little. They couldn't find him for a long time. At first it was Mike Grose, who said goodbye to the group after four months. He was replaced by Barry Mitchell, having worked as part of the team until the winter of 1971.

After him, Doug Bogi came to the group, but he did not stay on stage for a long time either. After that, the team members began to actively look for a permanent member, which became John Deacon.

Group compositions

In the summer of 1972, the band recorded The Night Comes Down and Liar. After their release, they signed an agreement and approved the rights to release the album.

The musicians needed to allocate time for work, because in parallel they were finishing their studies in college. Simultaneously with the record, Queen had to (at the request of the production center) record compositions of other performers supervised by the center.

After some time, it was possible to agree with Electric & Music Industries to record the opening song Keep Yourself Alive.

The released song and album were not popular, sales were not profitable. 150 thousand copies, a significant number of fans in the United States of America, brand awareness did not help. The guys didn't give up.

The Queen II compilation and the song Seven Seas of Rhye became very popular. In addition to the originals, copies of songs began to be distributed around the world. It was a real glory!

The album Sheer Heart Attack with the leader Killer Queen received worldwide popularity without advertising. The group began touring the world with concerts, while sales did not give the expected profit. The case “smelled” with a scandal, the situation needed to be changed.
