The beginning of the career of the SWV group

SWV (Sisters with Voices) is originally a gospel group formed by three high school friends, including Cheryl Gamble, Tamara Johnson and Leanne Lyons. The girls not only studied at the same school, but also studied church vocals. This fact testified to the amazing "teamwork" and harmony of the team.

The group, created in 1991, has attracted considerable attention from the public since the first days after its official creation. Three talented girls who just came to the first studio managed to make an incredible marketing ploy.

They sent the demo tracks to a significant number of ordinary people and famous artists, placing the discs in bottles of Perrier mineral water. As a result of this campaign, the SWV group was noticed by the major label RCA Records. With him, the girls signed a contract to record 8 albums.

Period of popularity

The debut studio album of the Sisters with Voices was called It's About Time. The album, released on October 27, 1992 by RCA, was certified double platinum. Virtually every track included in SWV's first professional work has earned an award. All subsequent works were also very successful.

The single Right Here peaked at number 13 on the R&B chart. I'm Soin to You peaked at number 2 on the same R&B chart and at number 6 on the Billboard HOT 100. The song Weak topped both the R&B and Billboard charts.

After the incredible success of the debut album and single tracks, the girls who worked hard on creativity got to the musical movie screen. One of SWV's works became part of the official soundtrack for the film Above the Rim (1994).

In the spring of 1994, the band released The Remixes, a thoughtful reworking of previous tracks. This album also earned the "gold" status. Songs from the collection sounded in all more or less major world charts.

The collapse of the SWV team

A series of spectacular performances by the SWV group in the period 1992-1995 continued with even more significant success. In the summer of 1995, the trio harmonized the vocal hit Tonight's the Night. This subsequently led the track to the R&B Blackstreet Top 40.

In 1996, the girls returned to the stage with the album New Beginning. It was preceded by a No. 1 hit (according to most R&B charts) - the song You're the One.

In 1997, another large-scale work was released - the album Some Tension. She again achieved great success, securing a popular team in a leading position in the national and world charts. Unfortunately, the Sisters with Voices broke up in 1998.

The band members began to work on their own careers, taking up solo performances and recording albums. However, not a single record released by the former members of the SWV group could achieve results similar to the collaborations recorded as part of the group.

Modern history of the SWV group

The landmark unification of the Sisters with Voices group took place almost 10 years after the collapse of this unique team. The SWV team was re-created in 2005. It was then that the girls first started talking about the creation and release of a new full-length record.

However, the vocalists were able to fulfill their desire only in 2012, after signing a contract with the Mass Appeal label. The album I Missed Up is a creative reworking of SWV's early compositions.

The work debuted at number 6 on the R&B chart. The Sisters with Voices once again proved their talent, demonstrating it without looking back at the long time of the band's actual absence from the world's media space.

In 2016, the girls from the trio Sisters with Voices released their fifth full-length album, Still. The disc was warmly received by listeners and music critics. Some of the works included in it were again in the national and international charts.

Sisters with Voices is a unique phenomenon that rocked the world in the early 1990s. The team, which initially included three not the most experienced vocalists, managed to achieve significant success. The works released by the band in the period 1992-1997 were heard by absolutely every person associated with music in the R&B style.

At the same time, the group, which received international recognition and worldwide fame, managed to maintain its original composition to this day. The girls from the SWV group, who disbanded the brand at the beginning of their career, found the strength to get together again in order to release tracks of a new, more modern and interesting format.
