The Sex Maggots were formed in Buffalo in 1986. But then the musicians decided to change their name to Goo Goo Dolls. They borrowed it from True Detective magazine.

In 1987, the band released their first self-titled compilation album. The following three records were favorably received by critics and listeners:

  • Jed;
  • hold me up;
  • Superstar Car Wash.

The second album in 1988 was released under the name Jed. It received positive reviews from critics, which increased the band's notoriety. The team was noticed by major labels. After the release of Hold Me Up, the Goo Goo Dolls went on a two-year tour of the United States.

The team has become very popular. But the Superstar Car Wash album was no longer as successful. Although the group did not stop there, the guys continued to work on recording new compositions.

Replacement member of the Goo Goo Dolls

In 1995, the group released a new record, which helped to make a real "breakthrough" in musical creativity, A Boy Named Goo. In the same period, the drummer left the band, Mike Malinin came in his place. Together with the new member, the group recorded several soundtracks for such films as: "Batman and Robin", "Ace Ventura 2", "Tommy Boy".

After such success, the team decided to take a three-year break. His fans already doubted that they would ever hear new songs from their idols again.

But soon the film City of Angels was released, the soundtrack to which was written by the Goo Goo Dolls group. The song Iris in 1998 became the leader in the list of Most Played Song.

Thanks to this "breakthrough", the team began to take a leading position in the American and international charts. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award in three categories:

  • "Record of the Year";
  • "Best pop project by an artist or group";
  • "Song of the year".

A new round in the work of the group Goo Goo Dolls
