During his studies, the guy wrote songs and tried to perform, but he did not succeed. Having defended his diploma, Kris Kristofferson returned to his hometown, and then married an old school friend.

The guy was at a crossroads - he could try a career as a singer, continuing his academic studies, or follow in his father's footsteps. Chris chose the latter and enlisted in the army. 

There he was trained as a ranger and helicopter pilot. Then he prepared for a military campaign in Western Europe. Throughout his military career, Chris maintained his love for music, continuing to compose songs and melodies for them.

In 1965, Chris received the rank of captain and unexpectedly refused the title of English military instructor at West Point Academy. The future artist made a landmark decision, changing the course of his entire life. Rejecting a great job, he quit the military structures and began to write songs, preferring the country style.

Career

The decision to end the service was extremely difficult for the artist. It is authentically known that after leaving the army, Chris quarreled with his mother and did not speak to her for about 20 years. 

Despite the fact that the artist managed to sign the first contract with Big Horn Music. The money he earned was not enough to support his wife and little daughter. Because of this, Chris had to do odd jobs.

During his time as an aspiring country songwriter, Kris Kristofferson gained a lot of experience and little recognition from big name artists. 

Some compositions, written by the hand of a former military man, were recorded by other artists who were able to take a leading position in the national charts. In 1986, Chris had a second child. This forced the artist to work on the verge of his own strength.
