The history of the creation and composition of The Rolling Stones

The British rock band appeared back in 1962. Then the group The Rolling Stones competed in popularity with the legendary band The Beatles. Who will win? Perhaps a draw. After all, each group entered the top ten cult groups of the planet.

The Rolling Stones became an important part of the "British Invasion". This is one of the most influential rock bands in the world.

The team, as conceived by manager Andrew Lug Oldham, was supposed to be a "rebellious" alternative to The Beatles. The musicians managed to translate the manager's idea into reality. But where did it all start?

The history of the emergence of the cult group began with the acquaintance of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards at Dartford school. Young people after meeting for a long time did not communicate, but then met at the station.

Time was conducive to the conversation, and the guys realized that they had the same musical taste. Mick and Keith loved the blues and rock and roll.

During the conversation, it turned out that the guys have a common friend - Dick Taylor. They agreed to get together. This acquaintance resulted in the creation of the musical group Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys.

During this same time period, blues aficionado Alexis Korner performed at Ealing with his Blues Incorporated band.

In addition to Alexis, Charlie Watts was also in the team. Acquainted with Brian Jones, Alexis invited the young man to become part of his group, and he agreed.

In the spring of 1962, already good comrades Mick and Keith visited the institution, where they watched Brian's concert. The musician's game left an indelible impression on his friends. Mick and Keith met Alexis and Jones, becoming frequent club guests.

Band looking for musicians

Brian decided to create a separate group. He wrote an ad in the newspaper looking for musicians. Keyboardist Ian Stewart soon responded to the proposal.

Actually, with him, Jones began to conduct the first rehearsals. One day, Mick and Kit got to the rehearsal of the musicians. After these events, young people decided to combine their strengths and talents.

In 1962, an event happened that determined the fate of the cult team. Alexis' group received an offer from the BBC to perform their number.

But at the same time, the musicians were supposed to appear at the Marquee club. Corner invited Mick, Keith, Dick, Brian and Ian to take the stage at the club. And they accepted the offer.

Actually, this is how the British rock band The Rolling Stones appeared. Not without first losses. After performing at the club, Dick Taylor decided to leave the new team.

It didn't take long to find a replacement. Dick was replaced by Bill Wyman. Another team was replenished with new members in the person of Tony Chapman, who soon gave way to Charlie Watts.

The musical style of The Rolling Stones

The musical style of the British rock band was greatly influenced by the work of Robert Johnson, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Muddy Waters.

In the early stages of creativity, the group lacked individuality, such an original and memorable style. However, over time, The Rolling Stones found their place in the musical niche.

As a result, the author duo Jagger-Richards received worldwide recognition. The genres in which the musicians of The Rolling Stones managed to work are rock and roll, blues, psychedelic rock, rhythm and blues.

Music by The Rolling Stones

In 1963, the composition of the rock band was finally approved. The Rolling Stones performed at the Crawdaddy Club. In an institution of young musicians, Andrew Loog Oldham noticed.

Andrew offered the guys cooperation, and they agreed. He created a daring image for the musicians. Now the Rolling Stones were the exact opposite of the "kind and sweet" group The Beatles.

Andrew also decided to fire Ian Stewart from the team. To this day, Oldham's motives are not entirely clear. Some say that Ian was too different in appearance from the rest of the soloists.

Others say that there were so many participants, so this is a necessary measure. Despite being fired, Stewart served as the band's manager until 1985.

Soon the team signed a lucrative contract with Decca Records. The musicians presented the first professional single Come On. The composition took an honorable 21st place in the British hit parade.

Success and recognition inspired the team to release new tracks. We are talking about the songs: I Wanna Be Your Man and Not Fade Away. During this period, the team was already incredibly popular.

And here it was not only about quality music. The Rolling Stones drew the attention of music lovers due to the scandalous image created by Andrew Oldham.

The band's discography was replenished with the debut album of The Rolling Stones. After the release of the collection, the team went on tour.

In parallel with this, the musicians recorded the mini-album Five by Five. At the peak of the end of the tour, the musicians presented the first chart-topper Little Red Rooster.

After the release of the first disc, music lovers had a wave of hysteria. A memorable performance, reflecting the extent of the craziness of the fans, took place on the territory of the Winter Gardens Blackpool entertainment center.

Traumatic concerts

During the concerts, there were casualties - more than 50 people were hospitalized. In addition, the fans broke the piano and some equipment.

This served as a good lesson for The Rolling Stones. From now on, the group recorded exclusively themselves and their performances. In 1964, the track Tell Me entered the US Top 40.

It was with this musical composition that the Jagger-Richards series of songs began. Now the musicians have separated from the standard blues, as music lovers are used to hearing it. This was indicative of the development of the British rock band.

The following year, the musicians amazed fans with musical compositions in the style of psychedelic rock. For some fans, this came as a surprise.

Soon the group's discography was replenished with a new disc, Aftermath. Considerable attention is given to the fact that this is the first album that does not contain cover versions.

In addition, Jones began to experiment with sound. This is especially noticeable in the songs Paint It Black and Going Home.

The electric sound was really revealed in the Between the Buttons compilation. In this work, you can hear the “light” sound of the musicians, and this made the tracks even “tastier”.

During this period of time, Mick got into trouble with the law. Now the team has suspended its work a bit.

The Rolling Stones began to move away from psychedelic rock in the mid-1960s. In the same period of time, the team terminated the contract with Oldham. From now on, the musicians were produced by Allen Klein.

A little time passed, and the musicians presented the Beggars Banquet album. Music critics called the collection a masterpiece. In this album, the band's soloists returned to the straightforward and so beloved by many rock and roll.

A new round in the development of the group

A new round has come in the development of the musical group. However, Brian Jones (who stood at the very origins of The Rolling Stones) decided his fate.

The young man began to have serious problems with drugs, and therefore he left the group at the very peak of its popularity.

On June 9, 1969, Brian left the band for good. But that's not the worst thing that could happen. The following month, the guitarist's body was found dead in his own swimming pool.

According to the official version, Jones died due to an accident. But many assume that the drug overdose was to blame. At that time, the group took a new guitarist Mick Taylor.

The beginning of the 1970s was marked by the onset of a crisis in the group. The musicians began to be strongly "pressed" by popularity. Jagger felt like the king of parties, and Richards began to have problems with drugs.

Despite conflicts and disagreements, the musicians expanded the band's discography with the Goats Head Soup compilation. A few years later, the team went on a big tour of the United States of America.

Biopic of The Rolling Stones

A biopic was also released about the band. The soloists evaluated the results of the film. However, it had a lot of frank plots, which is why it did not get into the masses.

The release of the 12th album was accompanied by the departure of Taylor. The soloists were working on a new album, while looking for a replacement for Taylor. Soon his place was taken by the talented Ron Wood.

Soon Kid Richards was arrested for possession of illegal drugs. As a result, in 1977 he was sentenced to 1 year probation. Only after serving time, fans were able to enjoy the tracks of the new Some Girls album.

The next album, Emotional Rescue, did not repeat the success of the previous record. The collection was very coldly received by the audience. The same cannot be said about the Tattoo You album. After the release of the collection, the soloists of The Rolling Stones went on a long-awaited world tour.

During this period of time, the Jagger-Richards duo began a serious conflict. Jagger believed that the band should keep up with the times, so new musical trends should be taken into account.

Richards was a vocal opponent of dilution and said that The Rolling Stones must maintain their individuality.

The conflict had a negative impact on the work of the group. The next two albums were "failures". The fans were disappointed. But The Rolling Stones promised to rectify the situation.

Soon the "fans" saw the new album Voodoo Lounge. Thanks to this collection, the soloists of the group received the first Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.

Until 2012, the band updated its discography. Moreover, the musicians not only re-released old hits, but also released new albums.

After 2012, there were four years of calm. In 2016, Blue and Lonesome was released. A year later, the musicians made a tour of France.
