Airbourne: Band biography

The prehistory of the group began with the life of the O'Keeffe brothers. Joel showed his talent for performing music at the age of 9.

Two years later, he actively studied playing the guitar, independently selecting the appropriate sound for the compositions of the performers he liked most. In the future, he passed on his passion for music to his younger brother Ryan.

Between them there was a difference of 4 years, but this did not prevent them from uniting. When Ryan was 11, he was given a drum kit, after which the brothers began to create music together.

In 2003, David and Street joined their mini-team. After that, the creation of the Airbourne group could be considered complete.

Early career of the Airborn group

The Airbourne group was created in the small Australian town of Warrnambool, located in the state of Victoria. The O'Keefe brothers took up the formation of the group back in 2003.

A year later, Joel and Ryan released the Ready To Rock mini-album without outside help. His recording was carried out entirely with the musicians' own money. Adam Jacobson (drummer) also took part in its creation.

A year later, the group moved to Melbourne, which is one of the largest cities in the country. Already there, the team signed an agreement to record five records with a local record company. Since then, Airbourne's business has improved dramatically.

The team has participated in various music festivals. Moreover, the brothers performed as the opening act for many groups, one of which was the world-famous The Rolling Stones.

The series of adventures did not end there. In 2006, the band moved to the United States to record their first record, Runnin' Wild. The legendary Bob Marlet managed its creation.

At the end of the winter of 2007, the label unilaterally terminated the contract with the band. However, despite all the difficulties, the release in Australia still took place in the summer of that year.

Local listeners were able to get acquainted with three compositions of the band: Running Wild, Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast, Diamond in the Rough.

Band deal with new label

In the summer of the same year, the group entered into an agreement with a new label. And under it, in early September, the first live album Live at the Playroom was released.

The problem was that the rupture of the agreement led to the refusal of all radio stations in the country from the use of Airbourne's music. The reasons for this were the legal subtleties of Australian law.

In the case of using tracks on radio stations, serious sanctions could be imposed. From this turn of events, the reputation of the team also deteriorated significantly.

According to the band's guitarist David Rhodes, the band planned to work on new material in early 2009. This statement was made during an interview, but the creation of songs lasted more than a year.

Later, one of the founding brothers of Airbourne revealed that the work on the new No Guts album, No Glory is taking place in a cult place. The pub they chose was the first point where the band "began its steps" in the world of music.

Joel talked about how they just come to the pub, plug in and tune musical instruments, starting to play from the heart, as when they were not yet known to anyone.

Group compositions in sports games

At the same time, the compositions of musicians began to appear in a significant number of sports games.

Clockwork and uncomplicated songs perfectly suited the rhythm of hockey and American football. The same list includes several computer games from other genres.

The first single Born to Kill, which was supposed to appear in the new album, was released in autumn 2009. His presentation to the general public took place during a performance in New Zealand's largest city.

A little later, the band members announced the official title of the album No Guts, No Glory. His debut show was to take place in early spring for the whole world and only in mid-April in the United States.

In early 2010, Airbourne sang another song, No Way But The Hard Way, from their new album on BBC Rock Radio.

In the sound of the band, imitation of rock music of the 1970s is clearly audible. In particular, parallels are drawn with the AC / DC group, from which the group often borrowed phrases.

Despite this, the Airbourne group was not criticized. On the contrary, the team is known and respected among connoisseurs of old rock.

Team change

Subsequently, the band released three more albums: Black Dog Barking (2013), Breakin' Outta Hell (2016), Boneshaker (2019).

Unfortunately, during this period, the team practically did not talk about their creative work, as a result of which information about the life of the group members is unknown to the public.

At the moment, the band continues to exist, giving concerts around the world. Their attention is also not deprived of the territory of the post-Soviet space.
