The childhood and youth of the singer

Alice was born on September 13, 1993 in Frankfurt am Main to a mixed Irish-German family. Three years later, they moved to the provincial Canadian town of Oakville. Her father's work led to frequent moves - so Alice traveled to New York, London, Berlin and Connecticut.

Despite the constant moving, the girl was not sad - she easily found friends and understood that these trips were a forced necessity.

At the age of 13, Alice Merton ended up in Munich, where she took up an in-depth study of the German language, which had a positive effect on relations with her family. Thanks to the lessons of her native language, she was finally able to fully communicate with her grandmother. Until that time, the singer spoke only in English.

From an early age, the future singer was fond of music, which later influenced the choice of profession. In music, the girl drew inspiration and strength.

After graduation, Alice applied to the University of Music and Music Business in Mannheim, where she received her bachelor's degree. She acquired there not only education, but also friends who later became part of her group.

After that, the girl and her family returned to London, where her musical career began.

Music artist

Alice's professional debut was in the musical group Fahrenhaidt. Collaborating with other musicians, the singer released the collection The Book of Nature. He immediately attracted attention, and thanks to him she received an award as an acoustic pop vocalist.

Then the singer decided to return to her homeland to develop in the style of solo performance. She wanted to be needed in Germany, where the years of her youth had passed. The girl moved to Berlin, believing that it was here that she would find strength and inspiration for work.

In Berlin, Alice Merton worked with producer Nicholas Robscher. He advised the singer to keep her individual style and not to trust anyone with the arrangement.

The collaboration inspired her to form the record label Paper Plane Records International.

In 2016, the singer released her debut single No Roots - this is her first independent work. The song reflects her feeling of loneliness associated with constant moving. Alice was torn between the UK and Germany, home and work.

This led to the fact that later the singer called herself a "man of the world." Constant thoughts about what a house is and where to look for it led the vocalist to the conclusion that a house is an intangible concept. For her, home is, first of all, close people, regardless of their location (Germany, England, Canada or Ireland). Each of these countries is dear to her in her own way, because her past and friends are there.

Alice Merton herself, when asked about her place of residence, answered metaphorically: "The road between London and Berlin."

The debut album No Roots was released with a circulation of 600 thousand copies and quickly gained popularity, as did the video clip of the same name. The song was on the 1st position of the French charts for a long time. She entered the top 10 most downloaded songs on iTunes, and the vocalist won the European Borden Breaking Awards.

This put her on par with Adele and Stromae. For the world of pop music, this is a rare success, because infrequently a beginner manages to stand on a par with famous professionals. The American company Mom + Pop Music offered the performer a contract for "promotion" among US residents.

Such success inspired the singer to further work in indie pop and dance styles. This is how the track Hit the Ground Running came out, motivating listeners for constant development and achievement of their goals. This song also entered the top 100 of the German chart.

2019 was marked by the release of the next Mint album and participation in the jury of the Voice of Germany show. There she and her protégé Claudia Emmanuela Santoso won.
