The history of the creation of the Amaranth group

Amaranthe is a band made up of members from both Sweden and Denmark. It was founded by talented young musicians Jake E and Olof Morck in 2008. The group was originally created under the name Avalanche.

Olof Morck at that time played in the band Dragonland and Nightrage. Due to creative differences, he had to leave. Then there was a desire to create their own group. The guys came up with the idea of ​​their own project a long time ago.

In the old bands, the musicians could not fully fulfill their desires. The new project had to be radically different from other creative groups.

The project took on a new sound when singers Elise Reed and Andy Solveström signed a contract, and drummer Morten Löwe Sørensen joined them. Elise Reed is a talented vocalist of the group. The girl danced well and wrote music. 

In addition to participating in the group Amaranthe, she was a singer in another group Kamelot. Also, the rest of the participants before participating in the Amaranthe project were in popular groups. With this line-up, the musicians recorded a mini-disc called Leave Everything Behind.

The musicians preferred to experiment and were constantly looking for new sounds. Basically, the group played in the style of:

  • power metal;
  • metalcore;
  • dance rock;
  • melodic death metal.

In 2009, the band was forced to change their name due to legal issues with their original name, and they chose a new name, Amaranthe.

In addition, the musicians agreed that their composition is incomplete. In the same year, the band recruited Johan Andreassen as bassist. 

Together, the musicians recorded the compositions Director's Cut and Act of Desperation, as well as the ballad Enter the Maze. In 2017, Jake E. and Andy Solvestro left the band. They were replaced by Johan Andreassen and Niels Molin.

Music 2009-2013

In 2009 and 2010 The band toured all over the world performing power metal and melodic death metal. The musicians signed a contract with the record company Spinefarm Records in 2011. In the same year, Amaranthe's debut album was released under the direction of the label. 

The listeners liked the fresh notes and unusual sound. The album was successful in Sweden and Finland. He entered the top 100 best discs according to Spotify magazine. In the spring of 2011, the musicians made a full-fledged European tour with the bands Kamelot and Evergrey.

The first video clip was filmed for the single Hunger, then there was the second one for the beloved composition Amaranthine from the debut album. An acoustic version was filmed for the same song. Both videos were directed by Patrick Ullaus.

In January 2013, the guys shot a video clip for the new single The Nexus. The second album had a similar title. The release took place in March of the same year.

A year later, fans could enjoy another Massive Addictive album. Video clips were filmed for three singles. The most popular tracks from the disc were:

  • Drop Dead Cynic;
  • Dynamite;
  • Trinity;
  • True.

The band members held over 100 festivals in support of the album.

The reaction to the work of the guys from the critics was ambiguous. Some admired the members for their courage, experimentation and new sound.

Others responded negatively, calling their work commercial music. The main thing is that they talked about the group and it only benefited them. Interest in the work of the project arose with renewed vigor. The compositions from the disc were popular among listeners.

Music Amaranth 2016 and up to now

In 2016, a new CD, Maximalism, was released. In music ratings, the album took the 3rd position of the charts. According to the participants, the album Helix, which was released in 2018, became the most successful and refined in terms of music for them. 

Here the music of the guys has undergone radical changes. This can be heard on the following tracks from the CD: The Score, Countdown, Momentum and Breakthrough Starshot. Video clips were recorded for three singles, which were shown in 2019: Dream, Helix, GG6.

Amaranthe today

The musicians continue to record new singles and delight fans with live performances. In 2019, the band members traveled half the world with concerts in support of the Helix album. The guys also have many plans for 2020. Now they are intensively preparing for the launch of a new album.
