The Pokrovsky team was engaged in the study of not only folk songs. They were open to experiments, so they performed works by popular composers. The compositions of Schnittke and Stravinsky sounded especially good in their performance. Dmitry's Ensemble worked closely with theaters and directors.
When the authorities changed their anger to mercy, the concerts of the Pokrovsky band were very popular in the USSR. Later they even toured abroad.
In the mid-80s, Dmitry's ensemble performed in the capital of Russia with the jazz group of Paul Winter. After a joint performance, Pokrovsky became friends with Paul. The musicians have repeatedly performed together and demonstrated to fans their readiness for musical experiments.
In the late 80s, Dmitry's team took part in the filming of the Musical Ring program. This increased the popularity of Pokrovsky and his offspring. The team toured all over the world. They held a lot of concerts in the United States of America.

He fell on the threshold of his house and did not get up again. His body was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery.
