Eduard Khil was born on September 4, 1934. His homeland was the provincial Smolensk. The parents of the future celebrity were not associated with creativity. His mother worked as an accountant, and his father worked as a mechanic.

The head of the family left the family when Edik was very young. Then the war began, and the boy ended up in an orphanage, which was located near Ufa.

Dreams of musical education did not leave Gil. He had enough knowledge to enter the Moscow Conservatory. After graduation, he became a soloist of the Philharmonic department of the Lenconcert.

Since the early 1960s, the artist tried himself as a pop singer. This decision was prompted by the work of Klavdiya Shulzhenko and Leonid Utyosov. In order to feel free on stage, Gil additionally took acting lessons.

In 1963, Eduard Khil's discography was replenished with his debut phonograph record. The young artist became a member of the Soviet Song Festival in the mid-1960s. During the festival, the audience could enjoy the singing of popular performers, including the classics of the genre. The singer's performance was so successful that he was honored to represent his country in foreign competitions.

Eduard Khil: the peak of popularity

In 1965, the performer arrived at home. He brought a prize for 2nd place in an international festival that took place in Poland. In addition, in his hands was a diploma of 4th place in the Brazilian competition "Golden Rooster".

The creative career of Eduard Khil began to develop rapidly. In the late 1960s, he received the highest title, becoming an Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

In the early 1970s, the singer presented the composition “By the Forest at the Edge” (“Winter”) to fans of his work. The song became so popular that Gil had to perform it several times during the performance. The composition "By the Forest at the Edge" is still considered the hallmark of Eduard Anatolyevich.

In the mid-1970s, the singer represented his country at a music festival in Germany. He starred in a television revue in Sweden. Khil is one of the few Soviet performers who could tour foreign countries without any problems. In 1974, Edward became the People's Artist of the RSFSR.

In the 1980s, he decided to try his hand as a leading TV project. The artist led the program "By the Fireplace". Eduard Anatolyevich devoted the project to stories about the classics of Russian romance.

Personal life of Eduard Khil

Eduard Khil throughout his life said that he was monogamous. In his youth, he married the beautiful ballerina Zoya Pravdina. With a woman, the artist lived all his life. The couple had a son in June 1963, who was named Dima.

Dmitry Khil, like his father, found himself in music. He decided to follow in the footsteps of Eduard Anatolyevich. In 1997, the artist's grandson was born, who was named after the famous grandfather.

In 2014, the singer's wife Zoya Khil took part in the Russian TV show "Live". On the show, she spoke about a happy family life with Edward. Khil's grandson, who was also present at the studio, admitted that he was considering his admission to the conservatory in the vocal department.

After the old concert recording of Eduard Anatolyevich Khil turned out to be popular among the "inhabitants" of the Internet, the artist resumed his concert activity for a while. Increasingly, it could be seen in television programs and shows. 

The artist performed until 2012. In May, the singer began to have serious health problems. One evening he ended up in the intensive care unit of one of St. Petersburg's hospitals.

Doctors diagnosed Eduard Anatolyevich with a stem stroke. The artist died on June 4, 2012. The funeral took place three days later at the Smolensk cemetery in St. Petersburg. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the performer, a monument of 2 meters in size with a bust of Eduard Anatolyevich appeared on his grave.

Memory of Eduard Khil

Eduard Anatolyevich left a rich creative heritage, so his memory will live forever. In honor of the artist, a square was named near the celebrity's place of residence, the Ivanovo orphanage for gifted children, the building of school number 27 in Smolensk.
