Childhood and youth of Evgeny Stankovich

Yevgeny Stankovich's date of birth is September 19, 1942. He comes from a small provincial town of Svalyava (Transcarpathian region). Eugene's parents had nothing to do with creativity - they worked in the pedagogical field.

When the parents noticed that their son was drawn to music, they enrolled him in a music school. At the age of 10, he began learning to play the button accordion.

Later, he continued to improve his knowledge, but already at the music school in the city of Uzhgorod. He studied in the class of the composer and musician Stepan Marton. Some time later, Eugene transferred to the cellist J. Basel.

While studying at a music school, Eugene realized that he was attracted to improvisation. He learned the basics of composing musical works under the strict guidance of Adam Soltis - at the Lysenok Conservatory (Lviv).

He studied at the Lviv Conservatory for only six months - he was drafted into the army. Having repaid his debt to his homeland, Eugene continues to hone his musical knowledge, but already at the Kyiv Conservatory. Stankovich got into the class of B. Lyatoshinsky. The teacher taught Eugene to be honest not only in his actions, but also in art.

After the death of the teacher, in 1968, the future composer moved to the class of M. Skoryk. The latter gave Eugene an excellent school of professionalism.

Work in the publication "Musical Ukraine"

In the early 70s of the last century, he graduated from the conservatory. Eugene quickly found a job - he settled down as the music editor of the Musical Ukraine publication. Stankovich held this position until 77.

Some time later, Eugene took the post of deputy head of the department of the Kyiv organization of the Union of Composers of Ukraine. In the mid-80s, he was elected secretary of the Union of Composers of Ukraine. He was the head of management from 1990 to 1993.

The creative path of Evgeny Stankovich

The first serious musical works Evgeny Stankovich began to write in his student years. He worked with different musical genres, but most of all, he loved to create in the symphonic and musical-theatrical genres. Having written the first works, he begins to talk about himself as a maestro of great dramatic talent.

The maestro's refined composing technique, ideal polyphonic texture and sensual lyrics take listeners to the heyday of the Baroque. Eugene's work is original and sensual. He does an excellent job of conveying the emotions of freedom, smoothness of forms and perfect technical skill.

He worked on large and chamber works. Operas deserve special attention: “When the fern blooms” and “Rustici”. Ballets: "Princess Olga", "Prometheus", "Mayska Nich", "Nich before Christmas", "Vikings", "Volodar Borisfen". Symphony No. 3 "I'm Stubborn" to the words of the Ukrainian poet Pavel Tichyna.

Musical accompaniment for films: "The Legend of Princess Olga", "Yaroslav the Wise", "Roksolana", "Izgoy".

Eugene did not bypass the "sick topics" for the Ukrainian people. In his works, he highlighted several dates that every resident of Ukraine must remember. He shone "Panakhida for those who died of hunger" - to the victims of the Holodomor, "Kaddish Requiem" - to the victims of Babi Yar, "Singing Sorrow", "Music of the Rudy Fox" - to the victims of the Chernobyl tragedy.

Musical works

The first symphony Sinfonia larga for 15 string musical instruments deserves special attention. The work was written in 1973. The First Symphony is interesting because it is a rare case of a simultaneous cycle at a slow pace. It favorably distinguishes philosophical reflections. In this work, Eugene revealed himself as a brilliant polyphonist. But the Second Symphony is filled with conflicts, pain, tears. Stankovich composed the symphonies under the impression of the scale of the grief of the Second World War.

In the 76th year of the last century, the maestro's repertoire was replenished with the Third symphony ("I stand firm"). The richness of images, compositional solutions, rich musical dramaturgy are the main differences between the Third Symphony and the previous two.

A year later, he presented the Fourth Symphony (Sinfonia lirisa) to fans of his work, which is saturated with lyrics from beginning to end. The Fifth Symphony (“Pastoral Symphony”) is an ideal story about man and nature, as well as the place of man in it.

He not only works on serious musical works, but also turns to chamber creative statements. Miniatures allow the maestro to reveal the whole range of emotions in one work, illuminate images and, with the help of real professionalism, create ideal musical works.

The creative contribution of Evgeny Stankovich to the development of musical theater

The composer made an undeniable contribution to the development of the Ukrainian musical theater. At the end of the 70s, he presented the folk-opera “When the Fern Blossoms” to the fans of his work. In the musical work, the maestro described a number of genre, everyday and ritual scenes in the musical language.

You can not ignore the ballet "Olga" and "Prometheus". Historical events, diverse images and plots have become ideal grounds for creating musical works.

The works of the Ukrainian composer are heard on the best European venues, as well as on US and Canadian venues. In the early 90s, he became a member of the jury of the International Festival of Contemporary Music in one of the cities of Canada.

In the mid-90s, he received an invitation from Switzerland. Eugene was a composer in residence in the canton of Bern. He is the winner of many European competitions and festivals.
